Suicide is highly correlated with depression.
Depression is considered a mental illness.
An illness is, by definition, a state of "unwellness"....a negative state, to be avoided.

Do we have a "right" to be ill ? Well...I guess so.
Do we have a "right" to kill ourselves" ? Well, what would the penalty be for violating that right ? Inflict more suffering? The death penalty?

I don't see any rational way to turn suicide into a thing to be "respected". "Understood", maybe, but always with some sadness and negativity associated with it.
"Interfering" with someone in a suicide attempt seems like a standard moral imperative. Isn't talking someone down off the ledge a "good thing" ?
So I guess the main practical question would be "Should we allow people to assist others in suicide?"
Can I push you off the ledge if you ask me really sincerely ?
How much about you do I have to know to make that decision? Do I have to be a medical doctor ? Can a medical doctor legitimately kill you and be considered "doing no harm"?

You've never been there, have you?

Your comments suggest an ignorance of the subject, which I do not say in a negative way. Your comments suggest that you lack experience dealing with it, or with depression in any meaningful way, and your comments regarding depression are incorrect.

Crom, you're babbling about something that it is clear you know nothing. My advice is to stop digging. You either cannot or will not understand the things that have been said in this and the other thread and now you're babbling about the "right to be ill" as if this suffices for an argument. Stop digging.

And it's ridiculous that we have two separate threads on the same issue.

I will just say that you are completely incorrect.

Terrific. And that's the end of it.
