True....they are the ones living there and will have to deal with all their neighbors, which includes China. From our (US) perspective, we see China imposing their will on smaller states using a combination of debt-trap diplomacy while pushing around country's fishing fleets, foisting low-quality medical care (Peruvian vaccine disaster anyone?) and outright taking over territory. The Australians, who've made some good coin on livestock and mineral sales, along with port operations rights to China, has put their foot down. Remains to be seen if US/UK/Japan helps off-set their economic gamble by pissing off the CCP |
