This may belong in “What’s Your Deal!” but I’m not exactly complaining. Maybe I should be but I’m not quite sure. I ordered a part direct from a company via their online store. I got to the shipping and chose USPS at $8. I’m in no hurry to get the item so any shipping is fine. But the next choice up was $15 via UPS which seemed a bit outrageous to ship a part weighing about a pound in a small box. Even the $8 was a bit high as I ship stuff quite often and it should be closer to $5. The original invoice when I checked out was $97.42. The credit card wasn’t hit until a couple days later at $104.83. I neither wanted nor approved a change in shipping. Is that even acceptable? I’ve contacted them to ask it to be changed back to the $8 USPS option. We’ll see what they say. | ||

I’ve really got to stop dealing direct with companies and use Brownells and Natchez, et al. as they are always more reliable on the shipping front. | |||

Yeah. I’ve asked them to change the shipping back to USPS but they haven’t replied yet. If I give a price in my business and I decide to use a more expensive product, I have to eat the difference. I don’t just add a charge onto the customers invoice. Ya know, there was also an $80 2-day and $100 overnight shipping option. I’m glad they didn’t change to one of those. | |||

No matter what the charge was for the correct total should be shown at checkout. I would not accept any change in price after I checked out. These go to eleven. | |||

Oh hexk no. If you don’t respond by close of business tomorrow and I don’t see the refund by then I am canceling the order and disputing the charge with the credit card company. Beyond that, I’ll not do business with tour company again snd will let all my friends and acquaintances know why. | |||

I ran into something similar when I ordered an item online recently. When I was interested in the item and inquired I was provided with a discount code of 20% for the item. I ordered it on the web site and selected the least expensive shipping as I did not need the item quickly. However, when I entered the discount code into the checkout section, the shipping I had selected was changed to UPS and the cheaper options I had selected was no longer available. With the change in shipping costs, the discount was barely 5%, not the 20% as advertised. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew. | |||

Shipping usually isn't just shipping, anymore it's a way to add a bit of profit, lots offer lower prices then a higher price to ship it, that will get me to not buy. They shouldn't change it without your permission, have you called them to discuss it. Emails can get lost, or stuck in a pile and you want it solved now, have to go back to the old ways, voice to voice over a phone Some times the old ways are best.. | |||

So far the company has ignored my email to change the shipping cost back. I did receive the part via the upgraded shipper. The company is JP Enterprises. I ordered two tungsten weights. Had they asked to change the shipping cost, I’d have canceled the order instead. There’s no way it cost $15 to ship a small envelope with 1 lb of merchandise inside. I’ve sent another email protesting the change in shipping charges without my approval. | |||

I’m wondering if checking out at a web site is considered a legal contract. Can a company make a change after I submit the payment? It just seems so dishonest. I know that $7.42 isn’t going to destroy my life, it’s just that I run a business and I’d never think of changing someone’s price without confirming it with them. In fact, I’ve eaten the cost of an upgrade that I’ve made in the past because it was my choice and not the customer’s. | |||

If I were in your situation, I would send a FAX stating that they have ignored your emails, and if they do not respond within <state some reasonable time> you will dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. I hope you save the invoice, right? Here's how to make it easy for yourself: You say you contacted them. I suppose it's by email and you haven't received a response. What I would do is go online with your credit card, dispute the charge and not that you only want to pay for the original invoice charge. Tell them that you've already contacted the supplier and haven't received a response. Upload the invoice. That's it. The Credit Card company will give you a temporary credit. Start an investigation.
