^^^^^^^ It’s my guess that USB-C, and its Thunderbolt variation, is the last of the wire charging/data interfaces. Apple is aiming for zero physical ports on iPhones. USB-C will endure longer on laptops. Serious about crackers

USB -C is a faster connection when all things are done properly. Enough wattage in the charger etc. And it will be nice when everything uses the same connector, but fact is there are many millions of very good phones that will be around for many years. 13 and 14, and for many people 8 x and 11. So don't jettison your lightning cables just yet. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

The new iPhone 15 non-Pro models will have a USB-c port that has a chip to throttle transfer speeds to USB 2.0. Only the new Pro models will enjoy faster data transfer speeds. That is the pre-release scuttlebut, at least. When in doubt, mumble

Apple has already used usb-c to charge some ipads and MacBooks in the past, though for some reason they went back to magsafe on recent MacBooks. It's silly that they haven't migrated everything already.

You can still charge newer Mac with USB-C. That's never changed. MagSafe allows users to keep more of their pets open so they can use various hubs. And for that market comment, 99.99% of tech manufacturers have moved to USB-C ports. The only reason Apple kept it around is they make money commission through the "Made For iPhone" program. Just like the old 30 pin iPod connector, the Lightning connector is a relic that should have died years ago.

I was having charging issues & androidauto drops with my Samsung. Had lint buildup in the charge port not letting the charger fullt seat. It's a bit tougher to clear out of the USB-C, with the blade in the center. Compressed air wouldn't do it. The Enemy's gate is down.

Gotcha. Our local Apple store was unclear on that point. I asked and they thought it was magsafe only - or at least that person thought so.

USB-C is mandated by the EU. The even bigger news is that removable batteries will be required by 2027 by the EU. https://mashable.com/article/r...tphones-iphones-2027 The performance throttling and built-in obsolescence of smartphones, now a nearly required item for daily life in the western world, is one of the biggest scams of our lifetime. No. A government mandate due to no other reason than what amounts to consumer convenience (the mandate being the result of whining to .gov rather than the manufacturer) is absolutely wrong. I agree that the move to USB-C is a good one, but not because any .gov is meddling in industry. That’s still bullshit. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Yeah. I remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth when Apple discontinued the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the iPhone. “Seven years later, it's more clear than ever that the days of the headphone jack on mobile devices are numbered. Here's how Apple was the vanguard for the death of the port — and what might be next for the connector. …… The 3.5mm headphone jack can trace its roots back to 19th century switchboard operators. Over a century after its humble, low-tech beginnings, Apple killed it on its primary money-maker: the iPhone. Apple killed the headphone jack on the iPhone in 2016 when it launched the iPhone 7. As is the case with most tech that Apple kills off, the move was initially criticized and mocked by consumers, industry watchers, and other companies. …” Quite an interesting article: https://appleinsider.com/artic...tional%20components.
