Former Ohio gov. John Kasich stole comedian's seat on Alaska Airlines flight after refusing to be downgraded to premium economy when he was bumped out of first class to make room for a pilot

-Julie Klausner got on the Alaska Airlines flight on January 16 to find Kasich in her seat
-She did not confront him but asked staff who explained that he had refused to be downgraded to premium
-A pilot who had to fly at the other end of the journey had been given Kasich's seat and he was bumped out because he paid the least, the airline said
-Instead of moving, he jumped into Klausner's seat because it was empty
-She got off the plane after standing at the front with staff, in front of him, because she said she did not want to cause a 'stink'
-Kasich, she claimed, had already been unpleasant to the staff on board
-Klausner tweeted about the incident and also discussed it in her podcast
-Kasich, who until January 3 had the use of private, state aircraft, has not commented
-He had been behaving like a 'douchebag a**hole' in the lounge beforehand, she said

I'm shocked...just shocked that he's a douchebag in real life.

He sealed his fate with me after refusing to attend the RNC Convention in 2016, IN HIS OWN STATE he was the Governor of. Mad

Well if I paid for a 1st class seat and received a ticket for it I’d grab the damn seat too. Let the pilot of another flight sit in a jump seat or whatever.

Why the airline staff let him take someone else seat is ridiculous.

I understand it sucks to get bumped but he wasn't getting bumped off the flight.

What a d-bag.

Same shit from the airlines. You paid for the seat, but tough shit, you can't sit in it any longer. Kinda surprised they put the pilot in first class.

Except he didn't grab "his" seat, he took the seat of another passenger who also paid for a 1st class ticket (more than him according to the story), so why is he entitled to her "damn" seat?

A man (adult) would have worked something out with the staff, not passive-aggressively just taken the seat of another person who also paid the same as him and wasn't ID by the airlines as needing to giver their seat up.

I don't blame him for taking a seat he thought might be open, but once she showed up a mature adult would have worked something out not passive-aggressively sat there like a child talking to other people on the phone ignoring her and the airline staff.

If the pilot is dead heading to work to fly (on company time), they won’t be “jumpseating” per their contract. You will see pilots jumpseattimg to work or home, but that’s on their own time.

That's what I was thinking. I don't like Kasich at all, and stealing someone else's seat is wrong, but them stealing his seat was the first wrong in this story.

I can't stand Kasich, but I put the blame on the airline here. Bumping people who paid for a seat is bullshit IMO. The overbooking has to stop.

I agree that overbooking is bullshit, but he needs to take it up with the airline (like any adult would) and give the lady her seat.

Read the fine print. You're not paying for a particular seat. You're paying to get from Point A to Point B. The airline can put you wherever they want on the plane, regardless of what seat you chose at the time of booking.

If you get bumped out of a particular class of seat, you are entitled to a refund I should think, but beyond that, you sit where they tell you.

Put the pilot in "premium economy". I would be pissed off too. And there is not one person on this forum (I would wager) that would not throw a shit-fit if they yanked you from your 1st class seat to plop a Airline employee in it and give you the walk of shame to economy.

Never flown Alaskan but i have sat next to pilots in economy, so I dont think they are immune from flying back there.

On Delta, the only time I have ever seen a pilot bump a passenger out of first class was when he was required to get rest and needed sufficient comfort for sleep. Any other time, they have been thrown back by the toilets with the rest of the peasants.

And again, you're not entitled to that first class seat no matter how much you paid for your ticket.

I'd be mildly annoyed and assume a refund of the price difference would be forthcoming, but I don't think I've ever thrown a "shit-fit" about anything. Life's just too short for 1st world problems like this IMHO.

He was also a really boring and bland TV guy for a while.
The fact he was elected Governor is a stain on the people that voted for him and/or a reflection of some very poor options in Ohio.

Oh for Christ's sake, we're not going to pull out the "fine print" argument again are we?
