I have a nitro RC car I am trying to get going but am not all that familiar with them. I have it running, but the receiver seems to be shot. The receiver is a 2 channel. It is a HPI RX-1. There is a 2 wire connector from the battery switch (4xAA) and then two three wire connectors for the servos. How easy is it to convert the 27mhz FM transmitter/receiver to a 2.4Ghz digital system? I do not want to spend a lot. I may just replace the old FM one if it is a pain or too expensive. The car is a HPI Nitro MT.

Everything should work about the same. My old $400 radio is probably 1/10th as good as the cheapest new one. Just googled there are a ton of conversion threads. I'd bet that hpi radio is a rebrand, just figure out what and read instructions. Sorry was originally thinking you wanted to retrofit, not modify existing. Ps here is a cheapo for 35 bucks http://www3.towerhobbies.com/c...i0001p?&I=LXELRH&P=0 ------------------------------------ My books on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/William-...id=1383531982&sr=8-1 email if you'd like auto'd copies.

Check out A Main Hobbies. Are the battery packs charged (transmitter and receiver)? It's pretty easy to change out the receiver in the car. Radio systems are pretty cheap nowadays. Dean

I've had some expensive radios and some cheap radios, I've found the TF-40 that comes with a lot of HPI rtr models is a great deal. Well built and reliable. You can find them for $35-40 on ebay. You may also want to consider the flysky gt3b, which is inexpensive and many people swear by.

I ordered a HPI tx-11 and rx-11 new on eBay. I hope it works well. It was pretty cheap. This is typically a direct replacement control-wise? The only change I see if needing a different battery to receiverr plug. The new one has three pins, only using two, but my old connector is a 2 pin.

The battery to receiver connector only needs two pins. Positive and negative from battery. The servos will have three pins positive, negative, and signal. Make sure you have a return spring on the throttle. Runaways are no fun.

Worked fine. Now I know why there was so many spare parts in the box. They break! I broke a differential cup and lost one of the wheel drive shafts. I also need to do something to the servo that works the throttle and brakes because it does not activate the brakes very well.

Fun! I've a Traxxas Revo 3.3 Nitro with a 2 speed transmission that I need to rehab. Lots of dried out boots and such. I also want to convert to brushless electric. I've only tinkered with this a few times and mildly ran it around the front yard. It seems every time I use it, something breaks. Seems like this is part of the hobby? I'm sure they make most of their profit on parts. All the plastic bits like to break. I did learn to always have fresh batteries in a nitro car!

YUP. That's always been my experience. 20 minutes of fun and then 30 minutes of fixing/changing some part. LOLOL
