The other GD in our life is our oldest nephew's family pup Bogie.

He got the poodle curl. We have stayed in their home while on vacation for a month every few years. Puppy love.

That's an F1B, which is what mine are. In this case a poodle father & goldendoodle mother.

“F1B” isn’t a very catchy name though...

In the case of my boys their alternate name designations are "Quit barking" & "Get over here."

They bark like poodles.

Double Doodles are hybrids bred from a Labradoodle and a Goldendoodle. So they end up being 25% Golden Retriever, 25% Labrador, and 50% Poodle.

A 50/50 ("F1") Labradoodle bred with a Poodle results in a F1B Labradoodle, which is 25% Lab and 75% Poodle.

You can then breed a F1B Labradoodle with a Poodle to get a F2 Labradoodle, which is 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Lab.

Same applies to Goldendoodles, substituting Golden for Lab.

The F1Bs and F2s are generally bred in pursuit of an increased number of offspring with the hypoallergenic Poodle-style coat, which many/most folks are specifically looking for in Doodles. You end up with a Doodle that is mostly a Poodle, but who looks a bit more like a Lab/Golden and has a bit of the Lab/Golden temperament.


Mine's a F1 Labradoodle, which is a 50/50 split. He has a purebred Poodle Dad and purebred Labrador Mom

I think that's the way to do it. All the ones I'm around are very hyper to me throughout their entire age so I think having a playmate makes everyone happier.

As noted, vinny's Labradoodles are 75% Poodle and 25% Lab. So they'll tend to be more like Poodles in behavior.

50/50 Labradoodles can be that way, but can also be more like a Lab. My 50/50 Labradoodle is very calm and patient. Lazy, even. Partly due to his more Lab-like genetics, partly due to his individual personality, and partly due to his abnormally large size. (Bigger dogs are typically less energetic than smaller dogs.)

Based on what I'm seeing in the neighborhood, the Doodle's popularity is waning, supplanted by the growing hordes of French Bulldogs, seemingly the smaller the better.

Still are technically mutts, which is why you can't have a registered/papered Doodle. (Even with registered purebred parents.)

But they're a bit different than your standard mutt, because rather than being a random/accidental combination, they're purpose-bred for specific features like intelligence, loyalty, and hypoallergenic coat.

So what if they are 'mutts?' I have a Golden Retriever, and he is an amazing dog, but he sheds all over everything all the time. We got a Goldendoodle (mother Golden, father Poodle). He is a very intelligent, happy, and goofy dog, he doesn't shed, and his only real vice is he gets over-excited at times (he's 6 yrs old) and he needs to be shaved about every 5 months.

I believe that, for the rest of my life, I will have a doodle of some sort. I'm allergic to pretty much everything, and I don't have any problems with him.

We have two less-common doodle dogs at the moment.

We lost our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in the last year to heartbreaking health problems that are common in the breed. We loved the dogs, but decided we didn't want to risk more of them.

We have a two year old "Cavapoo," a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Toy Poodle cross. He's a little dog, but he's sweet and smart and acts like a big dog - but also wants to snuggle up and sit in people's laps.

We also got a Bernedoodle, a Bernese Mountain Dog and Standard Poodle cross, a few months ago after losing our second Cavalier. She is an absolute sweetheart. She has the densest, wooliest, fluffiest fur I've ever seen on a dog. She's like a big teddy bear.

My wife loves dogs but is fairly allergic, so the Poodle coat is a big plus.

Both dogs are very affectionate, fun dogs that are great with our kids - playful with our 9-year-old and 4-year-old daughters and gentle with our not-quite-2-year-old son.

I'll stick with my natural-born mutt. (Well, he's my son's, but he is at my house for now.) He sheds like a son-of-a-bitch (get it?) but I am not allergic so I just vacuum a lot.

If and when I can afford a stable and wranglers, I will have a couple.

There are four families here in tiny town that have them.

Sadly only one of them gets walked on a regular basis.

The balance are just yard / house dogs.

I'm more of a pure breed myself but see the benefits of some selective cross breading. The poodle is the favored starting point because of their traits. Intelligence, demeanor, trainability, lack of aggressiveness, good with children, and low if any shedding. All of the things people look to when considering a dog.
