FBI knocks on your door

When the police come to my door, should I step out? Should I stay inside with the door open just enough to talk? In the past I’ve stepped out and walked them to the edge of the property (the public sidewalk in front of my house). They were just asking if my security cameras caught anything suspicious as the vacant house nearby had the copper pipe stolen.

I also want to know do I have to speak with them until they decide to leave or can I just tell them to piss up a rope on the way back to their car?

You can talk to them through a closed door. There is no requirement to open your door unless they have a valid warrant. "Do you have a warrant? No. I do not wish to talk to you. Please leave my property by the same means you arrived. Have a good day". end of conversation.

Is there any verification this is real? I've never seen FBI agents dressed like that. But, who knows?

I remember seeing this video about a year ago. The one in red who shows his id to the camera is some kind of financial crimes investigator but also worked for the FBI for domestic threats against the US. All I can hear is Hank Hill in my head saying "...tell them FIRMLY but POLITELY to leave."

Do you think this is how someone making a fake video would costume FBI agents? That ID looked very real. And the sheriff's officer in the video uses a name associated with that department, and has the bearing of a GA LEO.

My God, it’s like something you might have seen in East Germany with the Stasi.

The part where he casually says “you’re known” is downright chilling and a phrase that no American LEO should ever be saying to someone like that, at his door.

Awhile back I was talking to my brother about the perils of even taking to the FBI. He stated that he would never talk to the FBI without counsel present, even about the weather. My brother happens to be:

A FBI Special Agent!

The guy in the video should have just politely declined, or even better, not answered the door.

You have to understand that they can lie to you but we cannot lie to them .
So the only level playing field is to not talk without a lawyer or not talk at all.
Sad because many of us want to help them but the trust factor is not there in many cases.
I have a deep affection for Law Enforcement in general however, like they say in the boxing ring "protect yourself at all times".

My clients say this to me all the time: "THey told me they just wanted to talk about X. I don't know a lot about X and I just want to explain to them that I didn't do/had nothing to do with X and don't want them mad at me because I didn't answer questions." I tell them: "Look, you can't control their emotions so don't think about that at all. The key is, you have ZERO idea why they are talking to you, what they know, what they think they know, and where they are going with this. You don't even know if they are wanting to talk about X because they can flat out lie to you."

My advice: four words "Not without my attorney." Just four. In a pinch, three: "want my attorney."

Honestly, I would not have had that much conversation with them. "Who are you? Am I under arrest? Do you have a warrant? Have a nice day."

And para, the problem is this IS EXACTLY how this is done with LE. Innuendo, lies, veiled threats, not so veiled threats, appeals to help, minimization of risk, vague topics and overwhelming resources. All out of the handbook.

This video has the feel of the American version of the Cheka (counter-revolutionary police) to me. "You are known" is absolutely chilling.

We are in the midst of a Marxist cultural revolution, and elements of the FBI are playing their role too.

I have a peep hole in my door and only open it to people I know or sometimes neighbor kids who are only asking to retrieve a ball that got kicked into my yard.
If I saw unknown men, cops, or anyone else I'd simply let them keep knocking until they went away without a word.
There is NOTHING in it for me to let them know I'm home.

The days of Sheriff Andy Taylor in Mayberry are long gone. Eastern bloc policing is what we get to live with now.

As soon as they said they were FBI, I would begin (very obviously) recording video with my phone. Everything they said, I would repeat back, preceded by “so you’re saying”. When they finally realize they’re wasting their time, they’ll leave.

Sad but true. I have had several very off putting encounters with my local storm troopers in the last 2 or 3 years. I don't know if their mentality is trained into them or if the idea of power and control over other people just attracts that sort.
Either way I've gone from respecting law enforcement folks to seeing them as armed muscle for a corrupt government who try to find any reason to fuck with me.

The folks I interact with are very good people, but like most large organizations, they majority of the employees doesn't always reflect the leadership.

I'd hope it was someone I know with a beer in their hand. 0% alcohol of course!

It's true in many organizations that the so-called rank and file are, for the most part, unlike upper management, but the fact remains that these agents knocking on doors or conducting raids are doing the bidding of their bosses.

When you find a way to justify that- other than the non-excuse of "I'm just doing my job"- you let me know.

Just like Lucas Jackson said- calling it your job doesn't make it right.

I certainly don't condone or promote some of the actions I've heard of that trample on citizens liberties. It's not a necessary evil or even one that should be entertained.

More so I wish the folks doing good honest work were what agencies were known for.

When I lived down in the Miramar area of south Florida, I had a Federal Marshall come to my door one night. I opened the door and he said something to the effect of, “don’t worry, I’m not here for you. Have you seen this neighbor around? <shows picture> We are investigating an identity theft ring and want to talk to him.” I told him I hadn’t (which was true) but that I would be shredding my mail before putting it in the trash now. He smiled, gave me his card in case I did see the neighbor, and went on his way.

In that particular case I’m still not sure if he actually expected anyone to help him, or was just using it as an excuse to warn all the folks in the complex to be careful what they threw out. Either way, I feel like that particular guy handled things well.
