M1A's there are 20 different flavors a year, I am not kidding. We need more specific information.

Typically box, papers, tools, cleaning kits all add to the value, somewhere around 20-35% of the total gun value. so, if you have all that include it in the photos.

I don't know what a JM is but got the Marlin when I was about 14 or 15 (now 52). It was used for 3 deer seasons and has probably one box of shells through it for sighting in purposes and one deer. Would a serial number help you identify it better?

The M1A I inherited and know nothing about and as you mentioned there are so many different versions combined with my lack of knowledge of them makes it impossible to get a value.

Take pics of every marking on both guns, magazines, boxes, paperwork. ect. Clear photos, on a clean background. IE table cloth, towel, Get one of each side of the gun, 1 of each third, one of each marking clearly. One of each end of the muzzle, one of the breach. Total about 20+- pictures each. No, i am not kidding. the more photos you have the more accurately we, members of sig forum, can price it. We have dozens if not hundreds of specialized collectors with eons of exp.

A "JM" Marlin is one from the old Marlin days, not a Remington-made Marlin from after the buy-out, which some call a Remlin. It is certainly true that the first Remlins had some real problems. Many think the more recent Remlins are good guns, but it is generally true that a JM will bring more money on the used market, if condition is similar.

Yours is a JM, so no worries. If your is before the cross bolt safety, it will be a little more desireable still, all else being equal.

Oh cool, so we're like, having a neighborhood sized garage sale?

Might be a good time to get rid of that George Foreman Grill we've got in the pantry.

Arc.

Damn, your selling it 10 years too early. Looks like what I'm picturing for retirement, also in an area we like Frown

If you want a value on a firearm find one for sale on Gunbroker. If you can’t find it there search through gun forums for one for sale. There is the. Blue Book of Guns that will give you a value but that doesn’t mean someone will pay that much for it. If all else fails go to a gun store and ask them and understand that they will give you half of what it’s worth (or less).

This forum is a wonderful asset. Post good pictures and ask for advice/opinions sincerely and humbly. There are knowledgeable people who are happy to share is what I've found and you'll get a pretty good idea of what your item's value is. JM marked guns are hot right now.

Nothing but trees and buffets in Pigeon Forge - why would they ship logs from Sweden? Smile

Good question. The gentleman we bought it from was planning to import these log cabin kits and this was the model. The real estate market tanked before he could get it going.

Cabin is beautiful with a capital B!

I'm 67 now and some of my earliest memories are of the Smokey Mountains. Lots of Louisvillians tourist and retire there with good reason.

So does this include items measured using the metric system......say kilos hypotheticallySmile

Seriously, your Marlin is definitely of a desirable time frame. Now would probably be the time to sell. Roland Krapps is probably your go to guy for help with values.

the m1a is from 1993/94 time frame.

It looks like a range of 1350-1500. I know that is a wide range. It depends on how the barrel looks, how much life it has left. I see you can pick up 3 10rnd mags for 50 on BG, ad 100 for the mags. Are there any dings on the wood, scratches on the metal? take a picture inside the action with the bolt back, one at the breach face/chamber and one of the muzzle of the barrel.

the marlin is a GLenfield 30a, produce by marlin with birch stock instead of walnut. they were sold through department stores at a lower price point. it was made in 1977. sold prices on gunbroker range from 230-499 ish. I can narrow the price down with the same photos of any dents dings scratches, pictures of the chamber and the muzzle.
