If it's cold, maybe a minute but that's mainly to let the cabin warm up; otherwise, check rearview and then into gear.

Long enough to put it in gear and look around to make sure it’s clear.

By the time I:

1) Start the car
2) Put on my shades (if necessary)
3) Fasten my seatbelt
4) Unfasten my seatbelt
5) Go back inside because I forgot my cell phone
6) Refasten my seatbelt
7) Back out of the garage
8) Wait for the garage door to close
9) Drive down the alley at < 20mph...

It's at least 4-5 minutes before I accelerate to "normal" engine speed.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Do y'all drive old diesels, or carbureted cars? Never thought modern ones needed a warm up.

In freezing or below temps I let the car warm up enough to defrost the windows. I'm too lazy to stand outside freezing and scraping ice. Razz
Otherwise a warmup is not necessary. In cold temps you do want to go easy on things at first, avoiding hard acceleration. Most automatic (non-CVT or DCT) transmissions won't shift into the highest gear until a little warmed up.

For me, much depends on outside air temperature (OAT). If it's cold outside, especially if at or below freezing, I'll let it warm up a minute or two before driving gently away. If hot outside, I'll go as soon as my sun glasses are on, but still drive gently until fully warmed up.

Just my way of doing it...

It warms up as long as it takes me to remove the shade from the windshield, buckle up, release the emergency brake and put it in gear.

I keep the RPM under 3,000 until it's warm.

If its really cold out, I let it warm up to defrost the windows and get the engine heat up to warm the inside of the car. Other than that its just start the car, put on in the seat belt and plug in the phone and go.

They don't, but us old geezers are a bunch of hidebound traditionalists. Henry Ford told us to let our tin lizzies warm up for a few minutes, and, by God, that is what we are going to do.

In winter, I remote start and warm up until the windows are clear. 10 minutes usually. In warmer weather, the Charger will run through a self check of all the various systems of the car when started so I wait until that finishes before I blast off. Takes about 30 seconds.

I don't consciously pause - just start it up, put on the seat belt and check the area to be sure it's clear to move, before taking it out of Park.

In the hot months of Houston, remote start so the AC seats get cool before getting in.

In the cold month, same except for heated seats.

Between 10 and 30 seconds, then drive off nice and easy until the engine is up to operating temperature.

I do that for my car, turbo diesel pickup truck, motorcycle. Good results so far.
