Except that just isn’t funny. The shirts were. Perhaps if an OBGYN wore a shirt advertising for a fake spelunking tour guide company or dehumidifier manufacturer, that would be funny.

Firing that many folks in such a position is a net loss for society. The most these folks should have gotten is a slight reprimand for doing this on the clock or while wearing badges.

I think the Tshirts were in poor taste and reflected poor judgement. Removing children from a home is serious business. Plus a good bit of the time they get it wrong. They can be replaced with people who utilize better decision making.

I have known many folks in this field for many years. Such humor helps with some of the horrible things they deal with on a daily basis. Some folks just won’t get it. Plus, they just don’t have replacements lined up in a basket. This will take years to get them back up to capacity. But, if offending people is more important...

Find somebody whose kids were forcibly removed from their home without proper justification and ask them how funny it was.

I understand the dark humor, but wearing these shirts demonstrates bad judgement, IMO. I wiuldn't say they deserved to be fired, but it's not acceptable behavior.

I'm more in agreement with this mindset. There's a time and place to make fun of the people you deal with at work with your coworkers. At work is not that time or place. If they wore those into the office to deal with the public, or children they took from homes, that's worthy of punitive actions. In 2020, unfortunately for them, that typically means firing if you do something to make the organization you work for lose face.

Is it right? Maybe not. It's just the way things are.

Exactly what I was thinking.

With great authority comes great responsibility. That type of t-shirt undermines the mission of child protective services. I understand why an agency would be upset. That said, firing is extreme unless there is more to this story, which there usually is.

Come to think of it, the person who I would reprimand is their supervisor. Someone with the tite "Manager" saw them come to work wearing the shirt, didn't pull the group aside, tell them it's unprofessional, and have them go change. As a services agency supervisor the most important job you have is to protect your employees from others and from themselves. And the second most important job is to be the voice of reason and see things from an agency perspective. Whoever was their boss failed on both accounts. It will take years to restaff and retrain eight case workers. That's a huge blow to that agency.

We are in agreement if you read the last part of my OP. Do that crap on your own time, not on official time.
