I prefer my own mostly. I use London Broil cut, a seasoning my dad passed to me, and then dehydrate on a dehydrator. To me it is better than anything I have ever had. The next closest thing would be jerky bought at a Bucees gas station. I have never liked any brand I have tried at the grocery store to be comparable. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I think London Broil is good for jerky. I freeze it partially for easy cutting, and then slice into even pieces with a good knife. Then season and put in a dehydrator. Now I want to make me some jerky!! NRA Benefactor Life Member

Why london broil? What is it like - what are its characteristics that make it good for jerky? Can you make jerky w/ any cut or does it not come out well? Like london broil is good but filet or ribeye is bad? Are leaner cuts better for jerky; fatty cuts like ribeye don't render well / get rancid quickly? London Broil is a lean cut of meat. You can use any cut of meat, but you want a cut with the least amount of fat to turn into jerky to last as long as possible. The jerky will go rancid faster in jerky with fat. If you plan to eat it pretty soon, then I guess it doesn’t matter what you use. NRA Benefactor Life Member

Makes sense. That’s what I was thinking but wasn’t sure. May try making myself someday. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

How long does homemade beef jerky last before it starts going bad? Does it have to be refrigerated? ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

Thanks, JWF. Some of that is getting made this winter. A "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . Depends on how dry it is and whether or not it's cured. While I keep mine in the fridge, it geneerally doesn't last long enough to worry about it. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. Yeah, it is, but everything is pricey the last few years.

Dublins in Grand Rapids usually has theirs refrigerated. I buy quite a bit of it. I bring it home, cut it up into smaller pieces and then freeze it.

Oberto in original thin slice. Local iconic company. Thin slice pepper flavor is also amazing. Buccees, Hill country Garlic flavored. Use to stop at Woodys on my trips back and forth between Dallas and Galveston Island where I lived for 12 years. Now Buccees is more convenient.
