Good one!
And thank you for the background.

I remembered this morning an old timer saying years ago, “you can’t push a rope.” —> some things, you just can’t force.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. An oldie but a goodie....

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

Living in Florida, I use that one a lot. I’d say less than 1 in 10 get it.

Disclaimer: The following is for historical context only:

"Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle".

Apparently this was referring to fathering a child out of wedlock, and generally in a racist manner.

Some of our bowel movement euphemisms…

Have a deuce in the departure lounge.

Got to take the brownies out of the oven.
Launching a scud.
Deploying a seal team.

When my father got mad he would say "piss up a rope".
Another one I didn't understand until later in life was "don't get your tit in a ringer". Actually in the 80's someone gave me a new ringer washer when my washer went down. Took a while to get a load done. At least it helped out for a month before we bought a new washer.

I was raised by my grandparents and my grandfather was a WW II vet. It was one of his favorites

I met a guy years ago and when asked what he did for a living, he replied "I work for the government."

In reality he collected unemployment.

When my mom was young and begging for a canopy bed, grandad told her she could have a can of pee under her bed if she insisted, but she wasn’t getting a canopy over it.
