Digital scale or the scale with the movable weights?? There was a seven pound difference between them. These were measured in the physician's office.

whichever one was more recently calibrated, the digitals have caught up in the accuracy, And I'd be more inclined to believe that, more especially if it auto-calibrates every time it's turned on.

I'd bet on the mechanical one. If anything goes wrong with it, the scale (balance) the malfunction will probably be obvious or it won't work at all.

As a practical matter, I'd believe the one with the lowest value.

No way to know which is wrong with the available data.

I'd bet on the mechanical one as well. It's nothing more than beams and weights. Gravity doesn't change.

I needed the empty weight of a trailer and went to a long established feed store. Put the trailer on the truck scale and watched them sliding weights on a beam to get the weight. They said it was very accurate and certified every year.

The ones with the smaller number of course.

The mechanical one weighed seven pounds less than the digital one. I am of course going with the lower number. Thanks for the feedback.

My SECA 876 digital floor scale is the only one of this type I know of that has an accuracy specification. Perfectly repeatable readings. High capacity too – 550 lbs. (150 lbs. would be more than enough for me though). It’s marketed for healthcare professionals that need a portable, accurate, high capacity scale. It’s a compact, but weighty, little beast with a steel frame.

It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s consistent. They generally look for a trend in weight. They already know it could be off a bit.

I agree, BTW, that assuming the mechanical scale was calibrated properly in the first place that it would be likely to be more accurate if there was a discrepancy. As noted, gravity (and lumps of metal) don’t change.

And absolute accuracy rather than just monitoring one’s weight change over time can be a very serious consideration. Way back when I was subject to being weighed to ensure I wasn’t too fat to be in the Army, a seven pound error could have been a career-killer for many people.

You need another scale, then you’d have 3 that didn’t match.

Accuracy: 0.15% +/- 1/2 count
A count is 0.2 lbs. up to 330 lbs., 0.5 lbs. from 330 lbs. to 550 lbs.

Actually, you can interpolate the count. If the reading toggles between 130.2 and 130.4, then it’s about 130.3.

i agree

if you are 5'10 and weigh 192 or 199 it doesn't matter that much from a health perspective

if you weigh 192 in May 2018 and then 227 in May 2019 there is an issue to be addressed
