It would seem likely , especially with the internet now days. Why wouldn't one gun gun stores start popping up ? At the very least for the more popular guns. They might even offer up a dozen already customized guns for immediate purchase. Imagine NOT having to search for days for either a part or a kit or a custom part or kit or a holster for your Glock 21, your Ruger GP 100 or your Colt 1911. Imagine calling Les up at Smith 686 store and being able to purchase 2 dozen replacement parts or custom parts or a dozen different leather holster or half a dozen kydex holsters. That seems like a horrible business plan. Unless your 1 gun is “ar15” 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Conveniently located directly above the center of the Earth |
How's that different in retail terms, than a "one kind of bread" or "one kind of sandwich" or "one kind of anything" outlet? I'm located semi-rural. I don't think it would work in this area. Unless that was the only thing I wanted to buy. How long would "Old Smiling Sam the 686 guy", be willing to snooze between customers?

There used to be a Smith in Scottsdale, AZ that primarily worked on S&W revolvers. He did very well for many years. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

His diet consists of black coffee, and sarcasm. |
I don't recall what they were for, but there were a couple of radio ads from around the turn of the century. One depicted a store called "Arnold's Rug." It was singular because he only had one rug, and didn't want to sell it because then he'd have nothing left to sell.

Cabot/Alchemy comes to mind, nothing but 1911/2011. Of course you will be waiting about a year for your order to be filled. The “POLICE" Their job Is To Save Your Ass, Not Kiss It The muzzle end of a .45 pretty much says "go away" in any language - Clint Smith

Well, there are in a way. The auto dealerships. You get a choice of that make and that's that. Except even they couldn't pull it off and started selling those cheap imports from the other sides of the pond, the ones Detroit bought up to get the family car owner something for their kids to ride in going off to college. We started seeing Opels at GM dealers - Mitsubishis at Chrysler - Ford Europe at Mercury. And that is seen in gun dealers, too. Imagine someone selling only CZ - plenty in stock, all the availabe accessories, two or three guns a month in some metros. Nope, not enough product turnover to keep the lights on, so, Taurus, Canik, and a wide "used car lot" of glass display cases march into the store along with higher end hunting or tactical attire, scopes, RMR's, gunsmithing, and the other side of the corner store front is a pawn shop. The gun department in a sporting goods store as a standalone would need the hunting boots, fishing, camping, and attire aisles to keep the doors open, because a $499 gun in the case makes them less than $100 profit and they are sucking up the FFL processing fee, too. It's why tire shops also install mufflers, do brakes, oil changes, etc. Theres not that much money in selling just a gun. All of us who worked retail for decades know this. It takes volume - lots of repeat sales - to break even, and being open on Sunday is a negative against the bottom line. The more the doors are open the less profit per hour is made. This is why the internet has made a warehouse with a shipping dock so profitable. How many fast food joints stayed open and survived during Covid? As long as the drivethru and delivery were doing ok, then they made it. A "one gun" shop can't make it anymore than a Ford F150 dealer could. He'd be begging to sell F250's and F350's or looking to move to GM.
