Tongue and Groove project.

Last year there was a nail in a asphalt shingle that allowed water to leak onto the ceiling in my sons room. Plastering over ceiling dry wall is an art form and not in my wheel house. I am comfortable with wood work though. So I pulled the ceiling in his room and replaced with Tongue and Groove, replaced some insulation, and will have more blown in for complete coverage. Originally I just wanted to post that I give Milwaukee's 2841-20 16G angled finishing nail gun a thumbs up but figured the pics wouldn't hurt. My old Senco nailer blew it's gaskets prior to project and seeing how I already have Milwaukee M18 tools I opted to pay up and get the Milwaukee battery powered nailer. No misfires or jams and the battery didn't drop but about a half bar. I'm pleased. So if your on the fence about a milwaukee finishing nailer I give it the thumbs up for a DIYer.

The only thing left is corner round and I'm done. Thanks for looking. Hray

Before going any further,
I'd highly recommend you remove the wood and install a vapor barrier and drywall (for fire protection).

It'll also save you money on utility costs (heating and cooling). And create a more comfortable living space.

Why not just put the T&G right over the drywall?

Well, My son didn't tell me about leak right away and it started to sag and separate. I also pulled/ cut a section to find leak. Once in the attic you can barley change your mind let alone direction plus the duct work blocks your access to get directly over/ under where the leak was. Excam_man makes a valid point and if I was to do it again I would have screwed fresh dry wall up and gone over that. I'm not pulling it down now. Will see how it goes as for comfort/cooling and go from there.

Infiltration is going to suck.

Just remember this ceiling project when you're trying to figure out why your A/C is running constantly and you can't remove enough humidity from the space.
In colder climates, you'll end up with a dry, drafty old farm house.

Oversized equipment will mask the problem, but not solve it. Leading to higher operating costs.

Happens all the time.

Is this a thread about things that need to be done? Or things I’m currently doing?

If it’s the former it’s going to be a long long list and I really don’t have time. If it’s the latter… I’m already done posting.

That looks fantastic. We looked a few houses that had wood paneled ceilings. Love the look.

This week's project is cleaning & packing as we had out offer accepted on a new house Eek

Gotta prep the house for photos & showings.

Next project will be unpacking at the new house in mid-May, if all goes to plan.

NICE, I love the look.
It looks like the insulation didn't fill the rafters ~ am I correct?
If so it needs to have no gaps otherwise it could be ineffective.
I always loved wood on ceilings. Cool

Cograts, I'm currently in the DROP and have been in my house for 22 years. When I fully retire we're headed north some to get out of this rat race. I'm excited about it but don't look forward to packing and unpacking when the time comes. We've accumulated to much shit in those years. Hray

You are correct not sure what happen when I got my supplies. I thought I had gotten the right size. I'm going to have more insulation blown in. It's better than it was as half of the room didn't have any over it from previously blown in insulation. That was prior to me owning. Duct work blocked it. This time there is a vent on gable in thats right by his room they can blow it in from there and should get total coverage. Hray

Not “this week” as the first studs went up with the help of my dad about 12 years ago. Got serious about it within the last year. Started with the inside of this shop basically bare, added studs and insulation then put up the tongue & groove pine. I’ve got about 3 more runs to do on the ceiling then I’m done with that part. Doors and windows are next.

We're officially under contract as of 5pm yesterday.

Just got done remulching the front planters. 20 bags.
Hoping the last 5 will cover the rear.

Getting all that done prior to the projected 80° Temps today.

Yeah, that pine brightens it up some.

With the windows that I see, I’d consider something like https://solatube.com/. An uncle has it in his house, adds an amazing amount of light to the space.

Here, new cabinets are in the kitchen. In about a week it will be a flurry of countertop/plumbing/electrical. But I’m farming this one out, I’m too slow. I’ll be in the garage.

Finished the ceiling today. Now it’s just floor trim and some pieces along the ceiling at each end to put a wrap on the interior. If that solar tube link was for me, it’s a neat idea but I’m not cutting holes in the roof. It’s a standing seam metal roof and I’m leaving it intact. I’m just going to get some cheap windows since it’s only a workshop. Something that’ll keep it warm enough to be in here with a small space heater in the winter. Going to learn how to do windows and doors as I go along. Should be interesting....
