Don't Panic |
Switched to a five blade cartridge long ago. I was ticked at how quickly they stopped working and decided I'd figure out what was happening. Took the cartridge under a good magnifier and was amazed at how much crud had built up between the blades (and, yes, I rinse with hot water during/after ) So I took a toothpick and cleaned out the spaces. And lo and behold, it was like a new blade. Hmmmm..... Then I thought, why is that all crud building up? I did a test with just liquid soap and got no buildup. Turns out that my then-favorite shaving gel, "Edge", while it did its job on the face (good lube, and it stayed put) it stuck to the blade too well. I switched to a less-fancy shaving foam, "Foamy", which, while it drips a bit, it keeps the crud buildup to a minimum. Now, with a good rinsing and an infrequent bit of toothpick work, the blades last a good three months.

I do the pick trick too. Clean blades last a long time.I switched to an old school cream too, "Cremo", huge difference! The newfangled stuff was getting rough on my old ass. And I hate electric razors. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Dorco 6+. 3 times per week for more than a year. So maybe more than 150 shaves. It was still shaving okay but the lub strip fell out. I usually change after about 4-6 months. Thanks for all the feedback! Some interesting responses, for sure. Getting to cleaning the blades with a toothpick to clear the soap/crud build-up…could you put the cartridge(s) in an ultrasonic cleaner?? "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. I use a Personna Matrix 3 and can go for months but with these caveats: I'm retired so don't care how often Will sometimes do a quick once over with my Norelco Will always shave first with the Norelco before using cream and the Personna for a real close, cut-free shave Harshest Dream, Reality

Use a generic twin blade cartridge and easily get 20 or more daily shaves from each one. Use my Waterpick to spray the blades and clean scum off after use and they last indefinitely. Typically the white strip on the cartridge is almost gone before I switch to another one.

I use Harry’s. Shave daily, I get about 7-10 shaves. Around #7 I have to run the blade backwards against my palm to flatten down the tiny edges that inevitably fold back while shaving. It’s when I have to change the blade. I tried double edge blades (single flat blade you put in a chrome handle like your dad used)but they just didn’t work for me, I get a better shave with triple edged razors I quit gillette when they went woke, and I used up all my stock & switched to Harry’s. But I seem to remember that Harry’s has gone off the edge too. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I use feather safety blades. They last me about 3 shaves. I hate shaving with a dull blade and they are cheap compared to the combo blade ripoffs. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"
