Depends how big the conference room is. I'd suggest doing the meeting at a local park if it's a small room.

Does she have many prospects of leads she can visit in the short term? I wouldn't go unless she's able to resume sales in a safe manner.

Is she in an at risk group?

Does she live in a hot spot or somewhere like Wyoming?

She needs to go in. If she would be the only person on zoom then even if she pays for a zoom subscription and logs in, she will still look bad. She should go in, wear an N95 mask and gloves and wash her hands rigorously and often. If she singles herself out, it will not go well for her if things go south for the company.

All of this assumes that she isn’t in a high risk health group of course.

In MA, if you are on furlough your employer cannot require you to do anything work related, and cannot contact you to ask any work-related questions, or anything, until you are called back to work or released.

If the employer does so, then the furlough is considered terminated as are the unemployment benefits and furlough benefits.

My company has 15% or so on furlough, and that was what HR trained us.

The owner is potentially risking the employees’ financial well-being by asking them to do this, let alone requiring it. Not to mention his own.

YMMV, but that’s what we were told.

That said, I’d probably just go in. I’ve not missed a day this entire “quarantine” as an expendable employee of an essential business and it hasn’t killed me yet.

I absolutely agree, the employer is being very fair about this. I would think any worker, salaried, hourly, or commission based would love to get the ball rolling and start working again.

Same here in PA. If she’s on furlough, not allowed to do anything work related (phone calls, email, etc). Has nothing to do with the virusy parts of the virus quarantine orders.

If the business is that small, owner might not understand this. I suggest her asking if such a meeting will impact her unemployment benefits.

I don’t know diddly squat about unemployment benefits but being that she is commission-based she may not be entitled to unemployment.
