Thanks for another generous karma, Q! I'd like to throw my hat in the ring.

I served in the U.S. Army from 1971 through 1974.

My father served in the U.S. Army during WWII, European Theater, and is currently resting at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.

I have the flag and brass from his service.

A story? Hmmm... I'll keep it as short as possible.

While still in school at Ft. Monmouth I became interested in doing volunteer work at the MARS station on base, to run "phone patches" for soldiers overseas to their loved ones at home. Problem was: The ideal time for this was very early in the afternoon, directly after I got out of school. But there was this company formation every afternoon. So I went to see the Company Commander to ask if I could be excused from those formations for that purpose. (Any NCOs here will already guess where this is going.) He gave me permission, with my assurance I'd keep a close eye on the Company bulletin board.

Next thing I know my name pops up on the company bulletin board. The Company First Sergeant wanted to see me.

I got reamed. Turns out the Captain had no business excusing me from the Sergeant's afternoon formations. (This, btw, is when I discovered who really runs things in the Army.) Told the MARS station I couldn't do it any more, except on weekends, went home and bitched to my wife about the Army.

Next thing I know the First Sergeant wants to see me, again.

It turned out that my wife (bless her heart) had sent a letter to one of our U.S. Senators, complaining about how I was being treated. And of course the Good Senator followed up on it with the Army.

My First Sergeant was decidedly annoyed with me.

I apologized to him, profusely, assured him I had no idea and that it wouldn't happen again, then was obliged to go see the Captain and assure him there was no problem and apologize to him profusely.

Then I went home, thanked my wife for her concern and told her do not ever do anything like that ever again!.

Oh, the First Sergeant had a change of heart and allowed me to skip formation but one day a month Smile

Wow, another insanely generous karma! The elusive P228. I had a family friend, more like a father, that had one. We’d spend hours up in northern Wisconsin shooting his. When he passed, his son took it down south with him. Many great memories! Please include me. Thank you!

Thanks very much.
