I liked the idea. But I think they designed if for the plains of Africa and the English countryside. The off-roaders who have reviewed it said that while it's pretty good, it's got some serious limitations in the suspension and clearance.

And all of the fuses are under the rear seats so if you go through a gully washer and get water in the cab, you could be in for a long day.

Everything I've read talks about how they aren't going to hit the price point they were after. They're saying it'll cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $80k. Base somewhere around $60k.

I am expecting about $80k for mine. I just got another email from Ineos the other day. My original invoice is still sitting in my email.

I'm not going to lie and say that where I live doesn't have some impact on how I think--I am, inescapably, a product of my environment. But let's not pretend that I've said a single thing about the electrification of vehicles that is in any way "Californian".


There are performance benefits to an electric vehicle optimized for daily driving. There are also convenience benefits to an electric vehicle optimized for daily driving. And for some/many/most people, there is some cost benefit. How does any of that have anything to do with me being from California?

Are they good for the environment? Fuck if I know. I don't care. That's not why I have ever advocated for an electric vehicle.

An honest assessment is pretty straightforward. The typical American driver does some overwhelming percentage of their driving within the standard range of a typical electric vehicle. Fact.

So, if you are a "typical American" then you would benefit from an electric vehicle for the overwhelming percentage of your daily driving. If you don't think an electric vehicle would benefit you, then one of three things must be true: 1) you are not a typical American; or 2) your use case for your vehicle is not typical; or 3) you are not being honest with yourself and allowing the your fringe use cases to inform your purchase decisions.

No need to be offended by it. I lie to myself all the time. I tell myself I need a luxury marque on a vehicle because I deserve it/earned it/makes some social impression. Truth is, nobody cares. I tell myself I need something with 4 wheel drive and a locking differential and off road tires because that gives me access to the lifestyle I want: truth is, that's a lie too. Must of the time, I'm at home or at work. But whatever, I think it's OK to lie to myself. Doesn't hurt anyone.

The TRUTH is that most people would benefit from an electric vehicle for their daily driving. If YOU don't want to adopt one, that's cool. But doesn't change the truth, and don't get offended if you have to lie to yourself to get to that conclusion. And certainly don't get mad at me if for pointing it out.

I think anymore, everyone is just wired to fight! when anything outside of their circle-of-truth is suggested. The left certainly does it. The right does as well. That said, I think it totally sucks to see it here.

The last time I participated in a collection to get someone laid, we only ended up with enough for pizza delivery. Which was ok with everyone except the object of the collection.

The equipment does include a “toot button”, which is nice.

My 1972 Citroën DS-21 had a lever for the horn. One direction activated polite toot, the other direction was blast.

EV/Hybrid or not, it needs a few Vickers K MGs for the passenger/navigator.

So I went on one of their "off road" drive tests back in March. It was a lot of fun and the Grenny drives very well off road.

Over time we kind of fell in love with the idea of an old-style SUV that is actually capable off-road.

Now those with a reservation can pre-order. Still doesn't commit us to purchasing but keeps our spot in line. So I've pre-ordered mine. A TrialMaster in Queen's Red.

They're saying that you'll have to place the actual order in July with a delivery date of ~Dec '23 which probably means Feb '24.

Looking forward to hear your thoughts on it if you pull the trigger on it.
My main issue with it is that it's priced like the Euro brands, but seems on par with something like a Wrangler on content.

I struggle with the fact it is expensive yet utilitarian. Price of a start-up I imagine. I will have to make a hard decision in July.

But if I priced out what I'm getting for this vehicle vs a Jeep Rubicon all decked out, the Jeep will be more once you add on a new bumpers and winch set-up.

The Jeep would have bigger tires and higher clearance. Less horsepower but a hybrid option.

The Grenny would have a center-diff and turbo 6cyl for 282hp/332lbs torque and much higher towing capacity.

If you get the 392, it's a no-brainer.

At the price point, it's going to be a toss up between a Grenadier, a used G-Wagon, or a used Land Cruiser.

If this thread costs me $82000 Im going to be pissed.

Yep, making the preorder for mine this weekend. Still trying to decide if go with base with add ons, or go with one of the packages. The price does make me kind of sick, but if price out a Yukon Denali it’s the same price. But this will be a unicorn on the road, instead of one on every corner. And, I will use it like it is supposed to be used.

Can’t wait.

Still not enough to make me want to replace a 2003 4Runner Limited V8 4WD.
