The turn light is repaired so I got to the USPS in a reasonable time. It made me think of when we have a major hurricane and lose the majority of stoplights. Years ago it was a nightmare because nobody knew how to do the job. More recently female members of the National Guard are doing the job. They are doing a great job standing in 100 degree heat and directing the traffic. Do they go to a special training school?

I think first lesson is don't direct both cross traffic forward at the same time. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

When I was a cop they made us direct traffic in baby cop school. Then when I became a training officer I pulled rookies and made them direct a 4 lane road intersection with designated turns etc… After their initial flub ups, I explained just let one direction go for a minute or two then rotate clockwise. It’s much easier than trying to do turn lanes. We had a NG UNIT that was in town but they never came to us for training. So unless they’re a MP unit you got lucky.
