That is a very good thing. Millions of unsuspecting LLC members will be stuck with huge fines. It will do nothing to stop money laundering.

Right... OK. I agree. But why not take it out completely rather than just delay implementation?

Anyway, it may have a few good provisions, but this whole thing stinks to high heaven and it's mostly just more pork barrel spending.

How about cutting spending?

GOP Hardliners Demand Concessions

Johnson’s problems began Tuesday, when he sounded out hardliners on the House Rules Committee - Reps. Chip Roy (TX), Thomas Massie (KY), and Ralph Norman (SC) - to gauge their support for the bill. Unsurprisingly, the trio demanded a price for their cooperation:

1. Adherence to the 72-hour rule to review the bill before voting.
2. Spending offsets to counter the new funding.
3. Restrictions on selling off border wall materials.

Johnson hasn’t agreed to these conditions, leaving him with little choice but to bring the CR to the floor under suspension of the rules, which requires a two-thirds majority for passage. A floor vote is expected Thursday, giving the Senate barely 24 hours to clear the bill before the clock strikes midnight Friday.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said he had "hoped to see @SpeakerJohnson grow a spine," but "this bill full of pork shows he is a weak, weak man."

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Agree, shut it down, And if Govt employees don’t work, they don’t get back pay, just like Govt contractors.

New Congress starts 3 January, maybe they can come up with something reasonable.

Put in a short term CR limited to just essential spending. Let the new congress take up the debate, with the new Senate, on spending. These laden CRs that just kick the can aren't sustainable.

I think many People are figuring out the .gov doesn't really shut down. ever. National Parks get closed which annoys my wife but defense still works as well as it did the day before.

I admit I only browsed the list of enormities but it's an inconvenience, enough inconvenience to get people aggravated and calling but not enough not to do it when you have to.

For the most part, we have a partial shutdown every weekend, holidays, and congressional recesses.

And football is the biggest scam ever for the locals. I watched a documentary on all the different sports and football was by far the worst deal for the local businesses. It’s only 8 games a year and people tend to tailgate so they don’t spend much in local bars. It’s also on Sunday and people work the next day so most people go home right after the game.

Don't be so quick to judge the Repubs that voted against the revised CR.

Tom McClintock voted against it, not because he was angling for pork to be thrown his way. Not all.

McClintock is very fiscally conservative and he's historically asked for the lowest possible budget to maintain government. If I had to hazard a guess, he voted against it because he wanted offsets somewhere else or he was opposed to the Farm Bill portion.

The Farm Bill is the title but it's actually a continuation of the expansion of food stamps. Americans were historically at about 6% or so food stamps but once the first Farm Bill passed, during the Obama years IIRC, it jumped to around 13% and is holding fairly steady at that level.

The Farm Bill was a way for farmers to grow crops to feed the 7% increase in food stamp use. It's not a directly bailout for farmers but a gateway to give away food. If you cut back on the 13%, you likely wouldn't need the Farm Bill.

And good. Fuck that latest CR too. Why the hell is it so hard for these people to just have one single bill to vote on? One issue, one bill, one vote. Enough of the BS. Keep killing it until everything is its own legislation to vote on.

That is exactly what we need (along with term limits, but that's another discussion). One issue per bill, period. That would make it so much harder to hide the pork, and that's why the congress critters will fight tooth and nail against it. Still wouldn't stop the "I'll vote for yours if you vote for mine" bullshit, but at least it would make it harder for them to lie to us all the time.
