Census Bureau Says It "Significantly" Miscounted Population In More Than 1/4 Of States In 2020 Census Login/Join

The United States Census Bureau admitted recently that they just happened to "significantly" miscount the number of people in 14 of the states.

That's more than a quarter of the states where the numbers are seriously off in one direction or the other.

They've already redistricted states and changed congressional apportionment based on these numbers.

A follow-up survey the bureau conducted to measure the national tally's accuracy found significant net undercount rates in six states: Arkansas (5.04%), Florida (3.48%), Illinois (1.97%), Mississippi (4.11%), Tennessee (4.78%) and Texas (1.92%).

It also uncovered significant net overcount rates in eight states — Delaware (5.45%), Hawaii (6.79%), Massachusetts (2.24%), Minnesota (3.84%), New York (3.44%), Ohio (1.49%), Rhode Island (5.05%) and Utah (2.59%).

Well, would you look at that?

Blue states that we all knew were losing population, like New York and Hawaii, were overcounted and then red states like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee were undercounted.

I'm sure the rapidity of movement from blue to red states made the counting even more difficult, it's just funny that it ended up being miscounted in a direction that helps Democrats for the next decade.

I don’t suppose the fact that there may be more people who resent the “government” and therefore refuse to cooperate with the census tend to cluster in certain areas could have anything to do with it—? During the census period there were attempts by some to point out the possible consequences of an undercount, but ....

But, yeah, it was probably due to a deliberate practice by the census folks. The only strange thing is that they would admit the error now; why not just keep it covered up? Odd. Roll Eyes

If they miscounted them, how did they know without counting them?

Is there reliable data that shows how many illegals in a state? Maybe by county?

Or, maybe people that moved didn't get counted properly.

Gotta be a conspiracy though and they threw Illinois in the undercount column to throw people off.

Right.

It can't be that this is a massively complex task. It simply must be that some rogue element of government has deliberately skewed the count, and then somehow could not hide the fact that it did so from itself even after the presumptively more desirable party gained control.

If they stuck to just the mandated “enumeration” it would be a vastly simpler task.

Only bureaucrats have the time to waste on the forms they send out.

Dang sigfreund, there you go injecting logic again. Much more likely to be right, but perhaps less entertaining than the conspiracy theories. Wink

The problem is that so many "conspiracy theories" have turned out to be "something that was actually happening" here lately.

I understand mistakes can be made. But what are the statistical odds that so many mistakes seem to lean one direction politically? Seems more like a pattern to me.

How do you explain the overcounts then?

The people who “love the government” filled out extra censuses?

Sometime the easiest answer is the correct answer.

That's easy, the people that don't like government intrusion are the ones that moved and didn't fill out the census forms which results in an overcount in New York and an undercount in Florida.

But, we can't believe any of the dozens news stories about people leaving blue states for red states in 2020 because the media is in on the conspiracy.

Even folks on SIGforum must be in on it because it fits the pattern. I mean that evil mastermind Q, giving away his guns to folks that moved to Texas from places like New York, Massachusetts, or Delaware. And Benny, sorry man, you're part of the conspiracy as well. I'm on the fence about P220 Smudge only because he's moving to Arizona and they aren't on the list. On the other hand, he wanted to move to Florida, so he must be in on it as well.

I don't know the secret handshake, yet, but my 3 new tenants in 2020 were from New York and Massachusetts.

Why just accept that people left states with high taxes, crappy laws, and crazy COVID lockdowns for better states when a perfectly good conspiracy can explain everything?

Wondering about the overcounts is a valid question, but fortunately (for me) I have no responsibility to explain anything. Some speculate one way with no evidence, some speculate the other. Smile
But I will point out that it seems to me a certain amount of being counted more than once is possible for people who have more than one residence. Again, though, it is a valid question about why miscounts occur at all. It seems to me that it must involve something more than dealing with paper forms.

If my conjecture about the most likely areas to refuse to cooperate with the census is weak, I am still puzzled why if it was just a plot it’s being admitted now. If I understand correctly, it was revealed by the census people themselves.
And it also seems odd that Utah was overcounted along with all those leftist states, and Illinois was undercounted. Or are the plotters more clever and devious than we expect?

You must be referring to all the additional information that they “fish” for. Like the mid decade questionnaires asking about your residence etc.

I remember 1970 my mother and I were visited by a census worker and we got the long form questions in person as we never received a questionnaire as our mail went to a P.O. Box. I still the question about how many battery operated radios we had in our house. I was home for the early morning visit, early to me was anytime before noon as at that time I was working many nights until midnight.

The census taker didn’t like hippies, that was obvious and I didn’t like being awoken at nine A.M. to answer a bunch of stupid questions. The radio question, well I had a bunch of car radios we were junking at work (car dealership) and I dumpster dove them out and gave them away. Don’t think he liked my answer “Probably thirty or forty, want me to count them?”
