“...the traditional hot dog and soda combo for $1.50 is not going anywhere...”

Why is that statement not reassuring enough to forestall a panic?

Before we panic, it could be a regional decision. Seattle? Yeah, probably, along with Portland, SF and LA.

Might be a case of Costco sucking up to the tofu crowd who might have bitched in certain cities.

Local Costco (Altamonte Springs FL) discontinued the Polish sausage a few years ago.

Thankfully, they still have the large all beef hot dog and soft drink for $1.50

The Italian sausage with peppers and onion is pretty good. $2.69, beverage not included.

I ordered the acai bowl this week. It was quite good and I'll definitely be ordering it again.

Well, I'm glad to hear it. I love the basic hot dog they serve there.

I live in the Ft Worth area, and the tofu salad is at my local Costco. I was going to get it when I saw it named "Al Pastor Salad". Thinking wow. a pork salad, I cruised to the food court only to discover the "al pastor meat" was actually tofu.

I walked away empty handed. I usually get a slice anyways.

That's very likely the case. I was at Costco when I saw the al pastor salad posted up at the cash wrap, I got to thinking...what right minded Mexican would even consider ordering that? Got back home looked it up and saw the news about eliminating Polish's. Also, saw that depending on what part of the country you're in, there's various food courts have different items. Have never seen the Italian sausage on the menu out here, nor have I seen the chili. I heard bratwurst used to be on the menu, or, maybe in certain parts of the country. The brisket sandwich is ok, as is the chicken bake, I usually opt for a polish or, turkey/pesto sandwich.

Nevertheless, still stuffing the comments box.

Anybody remember when Costco had white chocolate macadamia nut soft serve and waffle cones? Up here in the northeast we would go to Costco just to have ice cream, it was extremely good. Then they switched to healthier option... sounds familiar. Frown

I've never heard of "acai" before. I looked it up and apparently it's a Brazilian fruit. (Hopefully, not that funny-looking spiked melon thing that Det. Deeks tried to foist off on the NCIS: Los Angeles crew one episode.)

I've been having these when at lunch at Costco since the early 90's in the SF Bay area. My doctor was not thrilled, but he did not stop me from enjoying a Polish dog with sauerkraut. The bun is actually the least healthy part in the equation. Actually the soft drink is even worse - I normally get water to drink.

Guess, I'll be saving a buck and a half. I'll allocate it to my monthly German deli run for additional sausage there.

I suspect the profit margins on the healthy food will be greater - people paying more for health.

Of course the quality of fruit over the past couple of years in this country has been shit. All the good quality stuff is being exported to panda land. I welcome a trade war. Perhaps I can finally get some high quality fruits at a decent price.

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

Costco has been the selling açaí juice for awhile now, big purple bottle in the coolers. I like it and put into my homemade smoothies; the citric acid in orange juice was starting to get to me. It's considered a super fruit, high in antioxidants, calcium and fiber.

You're thinking of durian, native to southeast Asia and super sulfer smelling but custardy texture.

Ok gentlemen, our mission is clear - start stuffing the comment boxes with requests for $3 Ribeyes and $1 Draft pints at the food court!

Seriously, this quote has to be the exec trolling and mocking customers intentionally, no?

This makes no sense as they cook the Polish dogs on the same gadget they cook their hotdogs and have them in the same fridge too. I personally don’t want some healthy food by some executive’s definition at Costco. Outside of their pizza, I haven’t found their other food court items very good. McDonalds for me now I guess when I need a cheap fast lunch.

You realize that higher profit margin is not particularly what drives Costco operations.

At Price Club, it wanted products it could buy for $1, sell in 7 days for $1.08 and pay for it in 30 days. Sol Price claimed, “My ‘secret’ is so simple that I’m reluctant to speak openly about it for fear of appearing stupid. I sell things as cheaply as I can.”

I’m sure Costco (founded by Price Club execs and later merged with Price Club) has smoothed up the formula somewhat over the years, but they tend to explore the demand curve to figure out where they can sell the most at an acceptable margin. That Costco founder said if he could figure out a way to sell that drink and hotdog even cheaper than $1.50, they would do so.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
