Costco Is Getting Rid Of This Beloved Food Court Item And Customers Are Pissed
quote:
Today is a dark day for Costco customers. According to a July 5th SeattleTimes.com writeup, Costco's Polish hot dog is being escorted off the food court menu. But fans of the Polish hot dog are not ready to say do widzenia (that's Polish for "goodbye") to their beloved tubular delicacy without causing a stink first.

Costco's chief financial officer, Richard Galanti, confirmed to SeattleTimes.com that the Polish hot dog is on its way out of the food court, but will still be sold in bulk within the store. Although the traditional hot dog and soda combo for $1.50 is not going anywhere, Costco is planning to introduce healthier menu options as well as vegetarian- and vegan-friendly meals. That means some longstanding menu items, like the Polish dog, are getting the shaft.

Chief executive Craig Jelinek reportedly announced at a January shareholders meeting that açai fruit bowls, organic burgers, and a plant-based protein salad are probable replacements for the Polish hot dog and the "Very Berry Sundae" in some locations.
"This new plant-based protein salad, I know that excites you,” Jelinek said at the meeting, according to SeattleTimes.com. “But it is healthy. And, uh, actually, it tastes pretty good, if you like those kind of things. I tried it once.”
....
The new Costco food court changes are reportedly in response to numerous comments left in store drop boxes. Customers have been asking for healthier menu items and Costco wants to deliver.

...

There's been SOME requests for healthier food options, wait until they see the number comment cards demanding the return of the Polish and the removal of Jelinek for being an idiot.

Do these clowns know who their customers are? Do the Costco execs have conference meetings at Starbucks? Do they want everybody to live forever and then die of nothing? Damn I'm glad there are so many busybodies looking out for me.

I'd like to order a plant based protein salad please. With an acai fruit bowl on the side.

Ok gentlemen, our mission is clear - start stuffing the comment boxes with requests for $3 Ribeyes and $1 Draft pints at the food court!

I’d rather they just add fries than get rid of the sausage. Removing polish is not going to be popular here.

And I may end up in jail if they mess with the churro.

Here's a thought that probably makes too much sense: why not add that stuff to the existing menu for the health-nut crowd and leave the real food alone?

While it was my go to quick meal at Costco, meh. It has been off the menu here for a year or two. An Italian Sausage has been added. As was BBQ sandwich and chili. So they finally added a veto diner stopper to the mix. Just like every Steakhouse has a chicken, pork and seafood dish, or seafood places have a burger or steak on the menu they may not sell a lot but it keeps a group from bypassing them because of one person.

What do you mean I can't get healthy vegan meals at the Costco snack bar! (Where all health conscious diners eat). Preposterous! Now let me check the local gas station for a kale salad with a nice balsamic vinaigrette.

I have a feeling they will be throwing a lot of this new food away.

When Costco stopped serving the Very Berry smoothie I almost had a panic attack.
Those are like crack to me.
On a hot day I would buy two of them.
The first one would nearly be gone before I left the store!

I'm still pissed. Mad What were they thinking?
They sold those smoothies for years and years. I know they were popular. They sold them almost as fast as they could fill the cups.
Damn them! Mad

And now the polish dog?!? Mad

Time to grab the polish dogs from the refrigerated section and the plug in grill and set up a sample stand in aisle 20.

"Vegetarian and Vegan-friendly" even sounds like it tastes like shit.

No way I'm ever going to stand in line for veggo or vegan ANYTHING.

It's been about a year for me, but the Italian has always been on the menu in these parts. Damn delicious. A belly-filler. As well as the long dog & soda special. Cannot remember the "Polish hot dog", though.

The last time I visited Costco their door monitors gave me the third degree, for 'food court only' access (my membership had expired).

As far as vegetarian/vegan, Costco is not the place I'd eat with dietary restrictions. Especially GF, if it is a medical condition.

Is the singling out of a nation for exclusion legal? Is it not complete and utter discrimination against people of a nation-state that led the way to break up the servitude behind the Iron Curtain? Is it not against the morals and compunctions of all Americans to allow people to eat what they want, when they want, and as often as they want? Can it not be said that banning a delicacy simply because of its nation of origin is prohibited by the constitution?

What do we want?

When do we want it?
