I have recently felt the little gratification you are experiencing from day to day. The program works if YOU work the program. A little bit of support from friends and family is some help. You made my Sunday morning with this post. I am not going through the transition alone and neither are you. Best wishes for continued success Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. This may have been said before but have a mentor who has stayed clean for a long time and meet with him regularly. My son, an alcoholic and binge drinker at that, had lost everything including his wife and new son when he finally decided to seek help . The rehab places did nothing for him in the past . He joined a local chapter of AA and had a mentor . He has been clean for five years now . He wrote a book https://www.linkedin.com/posts...384758114836482-tJuI The first thirty days of recovery . It’s all from his personal experience. His introduction describes walking on the beach barefooted on the Florida west coast. The sand was scorching hot . He noticed someone had just walked the same path and left foot prints. He stepped in those prints and the sand was much cooler. He made it to the cool water. He found it was best not to do this thing alone. He exercises like a fiend. He avoided any temptations during those first thirty days. He drank lots of water. He journaled faithfully . He went to every AA meeting and read the book . He met with his mentor for ninety straight days. He has his family back and has added to that family. I thank God. He is not a believer but his mom and I prayed for years asking for his deliverance from his addiction. He had to get to the place where he desperately wanted it. He’s free now but always an alcoholic, as he knows so well. He’s quite a man!

Saturday is 4 weeks. Been TDY all week in Ottawa staying at Byward Market. Dinner with coworkers every night at whatever pub they pick, it’s been fucking tough. But…Saturday is still 4 weeks. Had some non alcoholic ipa the first night and shit my brains out all night so kinda turned me off. Been water and coffee since. I think I’m okay, hotel has a fully stocked mini bar in the room but I haven’t even bothered. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Been there, the situation not the location. Coworkers are tough, since if you just stop drinking in a drink-heavy crew they will notice. Probably immediately, definitely on second time. And then, someone will give you shit about it. You can downplay it with "I'm just taking a bit of a break from it" or "I'm trying to lose a few pounds", but eventually it feels like it is easier to just say "Look, I'm working on a real potential problem here and would appreciate the support." The latter can change dynamics completely, but eventually may make sense. And then there's the buddy who, 3-4 months in will say "Dude, I liked you more when you were drinking!" Just prepare to laugh that one off without an explanation or understanding. Congrats on your journey so far, you are doing terrific and I bet you feel incredibly better. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

A man has got to know his limitations. I couldn't sit at a restaurant and watch people eating everything I wanted, But could not have, So I did not go with them Most understood. One day at a time. I remember when I quit smoking, it was one minute at a time, until I got through the rush of the momentary crave. That hit a lot and out of nowhere at first. Then the dreaming about smoking, waking up so disappointed in myself, then finally realizing I hadn’t actually..that my mind was trying to trick me by saying, well, you might as well light up another since you already f’d up.. I’m very impressed by your dedication to this. You are an inspiration. Keep updating us. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

There's been several threads in the last year of guys working through and past alcohol. Even myself have fought this demon a touch. Thought I'd share this. DAX is technically a hiphop/rap artist. But this could dang near be a country song it's so smooth & chill. Stay The Course!!! Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting.
