Recently purchased a bottle from Binny's and it was very smooth. It's a bit higher in price here, but not too bad at $35 a 750 ml bottle.

Visited with my son over the weekend. He had a 1.75l bottle of 4 Roses yellow label purchased for $25.00 in Georgia. Good as a straight sipper and made into a great eggnog.

It was much better than what I remember 4 Roses to be years ago.

After reading this thread I was pretty excited to try out some Buffalo Trace. I checked 3 stores and all were out of stock. All 3 said that it sells out within 1 hour of putting it on the shelf when they do actually get some in.

Is this lack of supply of Buffalo Trace just a recent issue? Or has it/will it always be this hard to find?

What would be some good mid-range alternatives to try? I'm not a big drinker so have never really had much beyond Jack #7 or Makers Mark. I wouldn't be able to appreciate a $100 bottle of anything but would like to try something a little bit better or different.

Woodford Reserve. Runs about $27 for 750ml around here

There are many good ones mentioned in this thread. To name a few:

(1) 1792

(2) Knob Creek

(3) Elijah Craig

(4) Jim Beam Black

These are all bourbon whiskeys that don't cost an arm and a leg, but do please the palate....at least they do to mine!!

I haven't seen Buffalo Trace around here in at least three months.
Been to liquor stores in other parts of the country and it's always in stock.
I live twenty five miles from Kentucky and can never find it unless I drive to Kentucky!

Wow! I got a bottle of Kentucky Tavern tonight and I am blown away at how good a 8 dollar bottle of bourbon can be. Really great recommendation.

My dad is right on the Indiana/Kentucky border and said that he can't find it either. He found a few bottles this week and bought them all but it seems dry up there. Around here I can buy as much ass I want. Every store has full shelves of it.

I picked up a jug of Old Grandad to try fixing my Manhattan's. Works fine!
