I have a friend who is, to state it nicely, a bargain hunter. He found some Scotch on clearance for $5.00 for a 1.75L bottle. Yup, you read that correctly, five bucks for almost half a gallon. Okay, now we're talkin'.... $10 for a fifth is what I call a bargain, and "bottom shelf" whiskey! Some of you guys paying $30 or so for a fifth... well, that's just out of my price range at this point in life! But if I were going to do that, I'd just buy Jack Daniels as that's about what it goes for around here.  To each their own however; I'm not criticizing your choices, so please don't take it that way! Oh the hazy days of that old rotgut. In the '50's it was the makings of a "Boiler Maker" - a shot of Four Roses and a short beer....35 cents. But, it couldn't beat the low cost of Korean Whiskey at five cents (MPC) a shot. Boy, I wish that I could find a fifth of McKenna around here for that price. I really like the McKenna 10y/o-100 proof, but can't locate any "entry level" in less that 1.75 Ltr. bottles. | |||

Have you had it recently? It’s come a long ways. The story they tell you at the distillery was all their quality product went to Japan in the past and the stuff they sold domestically was actually imported from Canada. | |||

Oh my... just sampled the new bottle that I bought and it’s even better than the first!!! Looked at the label and noticed it says “Special Reserve”... whatever that means! All I know is it seems to have a hint of vanilla flavor, I think, and definitely better than the first bottle of regular Kentucky Tavern that I just finished! For $18.95 for 1.75L, I’m calling this my new favorite, no doubt and no questions asked!!! Rum - while I wouldn't consider it bottom shelf, the mid teens price-point makes it "cheap" ....the Flor de Cana 4 year swings way above it's weight class. Rick Texting.......easier than calling. | |||

Tried your Kentucky Tavern. That is the best nine dollar bottle of bourbon I've tried. I haven't seen Buffalo Trace around here in at least three months. Been to liquor stores in other parts of the country and it's always in stock. I live twenty five miles from Kentucky and can never find it unless I drive to Kentucky! | |||

I like Buffalo Trace a lot. It's $23 for a fifth here, but now I'll need to detour on the way home and look for Kentucky Tavern. Cheers~ | |||

If anyone is near a Costco, their liquor is mostly store labelled name brands. For example, I bought a bottle of bourbon there very inexpensively that said in the fine print, "A product of Buffalo Trace distilleries." Worth checking out. | |||
