Chicago lawmaker promotes petition asking gangs to stop shooting during daylight hours

CHICAGO (TND) — An increase in shootings due to a supposed gang war in Chicago has led community leaders to propose a radical new solution to violent crime.

In a proposal called “The People’s Ordinance,” community group Native Sons asks that city gangsters refrain from firing guns at one another between daylight hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

“We have to start somewhere,” co-founder of Native Sons Tatiana Atkins told CWB Chicago. “Our goal is to approach our city’s gun violence problem strategically and not all at once. Things didn’t become this way overnight, and change won’t happen overnight."

The ordinance was promoted via email by Chicago Alderwoman Maria Hadden, who identifies herself on her website as the first "Black, queer woman" to serve on the Chicago City Council. A flyer on the ordinance instructs gangsters to “protect the youth no sliding while the sun is out.” Featured on the flyer is a fence painted with the world “Don’t shoot! I want to grow up.”

Atkins said the purpose of the ordinance is to prevent glorifying the criminal lifestyle.

“Under this ordinance, we ask that people stop associating with and glorifying’ shooters,’ stop glorifying ‘switches,’ and stop wearing those ski masks everywhere which perpetuates you as some ‘opp,'” Atkins said. “When those who live a certain lifestyle try to hang with ‘regular’ class citizens, they put everyone at risk.”

City leadership has repeatedly failed to quell crime in Chicago. In August, Mayor Brandon Johnson downplayed the looting of a 7-Eleven store by 40 teenagers, saying “we are not talking about mob actions.” He also likened such actions to “silly decisions.”

A February report showed that Chicago led the nation in homicides in 2022, ahead of Philadelphia, New York City, Houston and Los Angeles.

She might be the first "Black queer woman" on the council, but she's certainly not the first 100 percent dipshit.

Seems like a solid plan.

They need to come up with an achievable goal for these kids.
Asking them to stop gang banging for 12 hours is unrealistic.
Start small. Have them stop shooting each other from 9am to 9:15am.
A much more realistic goal.
Then with the elevated self esteem from hitting their goal, raise the bar to 9:30am.

So this makes all of those pesky gun laws unnecessary, right? Who knew? All this time all we had to do was ask politely.

I think that it's a great idea! Maybe could take it a step further and only have gang shootings on certain days of the week.

Clearly, these fuckers took their idea from The Purge.

So now instead of enforcing laws to the fullest extent and putting gang members in jail for a long time, they are only asking they just stop shooting at each other during certain times of the day.

In my wildest dreams I would have never thought goverment officials, instead of enforcing the laws, just ask criminals not to do crimes during certain times of the day.

At some point they can build a wall around the city and turn into a giant prison after all the law abiding citizens have had enough and move out, oh wait didn't they make a movie like this years ago.

This is not a new concept, Marquess of Queensberry rules were published in 1867. I am certain the People's Ordinance of Chicago rules will be followed to the letter.

It's a no brainer.

Lower the penalty for on time shootings. Seems fair right.
