Thanks for all the possible causes other than intentional malice. Perhaps nobody's out to get me. Perhaps... Big Grin

Without an eye witness or actual footage of that moment, all we have are theories.

The indisputable fact is that tire cannot be repaired, so it's time to shop for at least a pair of new ones. Frown

I also ran over a piece of rebar that bounced up and impaled itself on the underbody covers of my car and dragged for a bit leaving gouges in the pavement. Took a bit of force to rip it out.

When I got my first car in 1967, I had a flat and the shop found I had ran over a spark plug and it was still in the tire.

When you do replace the tire, it would be interesting to hear if the techs replacing the tire determined the cause.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I once had a flat shortly after visiting a medical clinic. Tire shop pulled out a syringe needle. I drove past the dumpster in the clinic lot so I guess the needle was laying on the pavement close by the dumpster.

If the bullseye is center of the "F" Firestone shield, maybe a click left windage, but a good shot for 600 meters.

A far-left international group that encourages groups of people to deflate tires on parked sports utility vehicles (SUV) in an effort to combat global warming has expanded its operations to 18 countries.

The group, named the Tyre Extinguishers and based in the U.K., has claimed credit for tire-deflating operations in American cities including New York City, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and cities in England, Canada, France, Spain, Germany and Italy among others. And most recently, on Thursday, members affiliated with the Tyre Extinguishers conducted an action in Lisbon, Portugal.

"Reports coming in of very angry #CarShaggers who are upset they can’t drive their massive tanks around Lisbon. Oh no!" the group said. "Welcome to the fun, Portugal! Now that we’ve had our first action in Lisbon, where’s next?"

Maybe a severe beating when they're caught in the act.

Well, we don't know that the OP's vehicle is an SUV, and even if it is, that group advocates just deflating the tire (sorry, tyre) through the valve stem, not actual damage. Something to keep in mind, though.

That tire is mounted on a 2013 Civic. Even though I'm in the epicenter of left-wing craziness living in the Bay Area, it's not a vehicle that would draw the ire of a tree-hugging loon.
