I hadn't had fritos in 15 years .
But I saw that they now offer 50% less salt
frito's and they were half priced.

But I gotta ask, were they always so
freaking
greasy ? I don't remember my fingers
being coated in oil .

I mean shiny ,glossy oily. I was hoping
to like them , but not with this nasty oil
all over them.

Do the other old people eat fritos ?

Yes. Many hikers carry crumbled Frito's as an easy to light material for fire starting.

Supposedly there is a 35% less fat version, but oddly only sell it through Doordash and Food Service Rewards. I've never tried them.

Fritos in a good bowl of chili. That's good eating.

You Texas guys can keep the beans out of your chili, that's fine.

Frito Chili pie, thats good stuff.

On long bicycle rides, they're a godsend for when you've judged poorly an are "tanking." Fat and salt. Chase it down with some canned Red Ambulance (classic Coca-Cola) and it can give you the kick to make it to real food.

Also, the ONLY way to eat chili in the DennisM house.

I don't know about improved and I never buy chips (pretzels are my snack) but I notice Fritos on the shelfs and the "family size" bags are priced over $5! The bags appear in between the size of what used to be family size and snack size. Shrinkflation.

Lower sodium > less salt > less flavor. I have found this to be true with the "lower sodium" versions of V8 vegetable juice and SPAM.

While too much of anything is bad, I don't buy the claims that salt, even excessive at times, is bad. Salt is necessary to live.

I like Fritos in chili too, but the chili has to be home-made, nothing out of a can.

I have not noticed excessive greasiness, but with the price of chips these days, I haven't bought for a while. Perhaps you could eat them the way I do Cheetos (to keep the orange off), with chopsticks.

A lot of food products were forced by government edict to not use trans fats any longer and it changed the texture and flavor of a lot of things like Tastykakes which are awful now. I would not be surprised if that is the reason the OP says they seem "greasy/oily" now.

OKCGene- My friends are always happy to see me bring a crockpot of homemade chili and Fritos to their Sooner football watching party.

Dennis M - Yup, I have staved off a "bonk" on a long distance bicycle ride with Fritos! For those of you that haven't heard the term bonk, the funniest explanation I have heard is, "I was so hungry I tried to eat the lawn!" I'll keep the high sodium ones, as I need to replace all the salt I have sweated out on bike rides.

Chili on top of Fritos then cheese on top of that, that's how my wife's family has always done it and how she does it. They all think I'm weird because I grew up eating chili over rice, never with Fritos or by itself.

When I was contracting in Ohio, I learned that they put chili on cooked spaghetti (Cincinnati Style). Don't knock it till you try it!

I almost always have to have oyster crackers with chili.

For many people it is not an issue but millions require a low sodium diet for health concerns. I am one them and was shocked at how much sodium is contained in so many different foods and the small serving sizes. This is true for even many of the "lower sodium" offerings. Take a look at the labels of what you and buy and compare that to the recommended daily intake of 2500mg. You will likely be well over that in a hurry.

I hit a jackpot high score for Potassium during recent labs. The very first thing my VA diet advisor alerted me to were advertised "low sodium" products. Most food products are heavily loaded with Potassium if Salt is reduced. An examination of my pantry and the grocery store confirmed her warning.

I grew up eating Frito chili Pies and still to this day love them. I have to add a bit of chopped onion to the top to finish it out. Maybe a shot or two of hot sauce also.

They have been greasy for awhile now.
Still delicious as ever. I’ll have to see if I can find these low sodium ones.
While I enjoy the originals a little less salty might not be a bad thing.

I have to dispute that. Take US 60 out of Charleston as a shortcut to get to Lexington, Va and you get a very "interesting" road to drive. Did that with my 1985 Monte Carlo SS and that first hairpin with the 15mph recommended speed sign indicated what was coming. Unfortunately I was stuck behind a guy on a Harley Softail and he was rather pokey in the curves. So when a passing opportunity came up I called up all 400 hp from the engine I had built for it and passed him. Which really pissed him off judging by how hard on my bumper he was until we got to the first corner in a series of turns. He started falling back as we approached the corner and as I exited it he was well behind me. By the time I was out of that set of twisties he was way out of sight. Now I will admit that my Monte Carlo is a decent handling car it is more of a high speed demon. Compared to my current daily Fiesta ST it's a bit like a truck in the twisties. Put good sticky tires on the Fiesta and it takes a VERY good rider on a Sportbike to get away from me on a tight twisty road. I will also note that while route 60 is fewer miles it's not a time saver, way way too many slowpokes on that road.

I've stopped counting.
