Tonight I got a Potential Spam call on my phone that said it showed I had recently purchased Jiff peanut butter from COSTCO. I had bought a 2 pack of Extra Crunchy and was instructed to return it to COSTCO for a full refund.
Apparently there is a salmonella contamination in a lot of peanut butter from Jiff.
I also had a smaller jar from a local grocery chain that was in the recall sequence. I opened the lid and it had what I would consider a single serving used. A couple of days back I did have a PBJ for breakfast. I am not 100% sure which day but I did have a sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhea one afternoon in about the right timeframe.
Anyway if you have any Jiff peanut butter in your home go to Jiff.com or CDC.com and the details of the recall are there.
ETA, the lot number is the first 7 digits of the long number below the best used by date on the label.

Lots between 1274425 to 2140425 are targeted.

All six jars we have onboard the ship are affected.

I'm not really concerned.

And they are only assuming it's the peanut butter because some of the people who got sick had recently eaten Jif. They haven't tested and found anything in the peanut butter. At least not yet.

I’ve got a jar in the recall. Their announcement only says to throw it out, nothing about getting your money back or getting a replacement.

Just checked--my current jar is Peter Pan. I more or less randomly go among PP, JIF, and Skippy.

Yep, I have two unopened jars in the recall list and one jar that I had used yesterday for one serving. So far I feel okay. I have the receipt for the two unopened jars and will be taking them back to the store tomorrow. I'm not sure if they will take back the jar that I opened and took out about one or two tablespoons of peanut butter.

Yeah, noticed that too. "Toss it in the trash, then go to the store and buy more!"

Brilliant.

I too received a phone call which identified as possible spam. It left a voice mail about the peanut butter and recall.

I was skeptical.

I googled it and found out there is indeed a recall.

I'll pitch it, Costco has electronic records of all receipts, and that's good enough, no paper receipt is required. In fact, when you are signed into your Costco.com account, you can see your receipts right then and there.

Not so fast, I did the same and the numbers on the jars don’t match but the numbers on the outer wrapper of the two pack do.
If you have removed that wrapper, you won’t know or be able to check as the number on the jars are different than the wrapper. Mine was still there as I hadn’t opened or separated them yet.
Mine are two 48 oz. jars but show up on the list as a 96 oz so be careful of that too.

Just got an email from costco, got one of the two packs not long ago.

It states "Do not eat affected product; please throw it away and go to Costco for a full refund."

I got a second notice at 6:30 this morning from Costco and a little more info on the lot numbers.
Look for 425 in the first seven numbers below the "best if used by date".
That indicated it came from the Louisville plant. I have friends with a rescue that had a case last night where one of their dogs had to go to the emergency vet from this. Due to the urgency of the notices, I've never had even one like this before, and knowing someone that had a problem, I'd take this a bit more seriously.

Also, see my post a few above this one for info about the wrapper/label.

You're saying the dog ate peanut butter and got salmonella?

I got the call last night also.

edit… found the lot #. I’ve got 1.5 affected jars. I’ll just toss them, to be safe.

I did have a day full of “screamers” last Monday. Can’t say it’s related or not

I’m heading to grocery store anyway today. I’ll pick up a jar to tide me over until next Costco run

Have an older non-affected jar of Jif, but have started switching due to the sugar and the vegetable oil contents...

Teddie's looks great. Like thicker chunky style PB and I just dont care for the taste of other nut butters...

Thanks 220-9er. Mine have the 425#. Costco doesn't have my email. Had a PBJ a couple days ago,
was going to have an apple with PB later today. I'll pitch em, not worth getting sick over one
and a half jars of peanut butter.
