My old electric Hamilton-Beach coffee grinder is on it's last legs. It was like $15 and isn't really repairable when it finally goes. We use it every morning to grind whole beans for a pot of coffee. I would like to find a replacement that is NOT made in China. I don't mind spending more $ than the old one but just haven't been able to find a non-Chinese version. Anyone have any suggestions? And, in case it gets asked, yes I do have an ancient mechanical hand-cranked version that probably was made in the US, but the wife is not going to want to use that one every day so that's pretty much out of the question! Thanks for any help.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Depending on the grind size you are looking for. Blade grinders pretty much destroy coffee and don't provide consistent grind size. Delonghi Ariete Grinder Pro https://www.amazon.com/Ariete-...b3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

Your $15 grinder was most likely a blade grinder, and I'm assuming you will not find a blade one not made in China. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find one made in the USA. I have a Rancilio Rocky burr grinder that I bought 15-20 years ago, and it is made in Italy. Ceado's are made in Italy. Baratza's are made in Taiwan. To find one made outside of China, expect to pay A LOT MORE than 15 bucks. Mine cost $300, I'm sure they are more expensive now. According to Wikipedia, De Longhi, an Italian company, has been importing most of their their products from China for decades. Baratza Virtuoso's are made in Taiwan (Taiwan has been resisting China since the 1680's and resisting Chinese communism since the 1950's). I originally bought one for my Dad as a gift and liked it so well I bought one for myself. Conical burr grinders are the way to go for uniform grind size. My old $15 cheapie coffee grinder has been relegated to a spice grinder (great for getting clumps out of brown sugar). I highly doubt the B+D coffee grinder shown here was made in the USA. I have one, several decades old, that was "Made in China". _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Well, damn. I just thought "Delonghi", that's Italian right. I would probably find a manual grinder but even my Hario Skerton Pro is MIC. Kitchen appliances may be a challenge. https://www.redroostertradingc.../camano-coffee-mill/

Good info - thanks. Judging by their website, looks like the Baratza's Encore and Virtuoso are made in Taiwan. I'm checking out their documentation on those models since either one would probably work for us. Definitely harder to find non-Communist Chinese variants than you'd think! This message has been edited. Last edited by: tsmccull,

Capresso 565.05 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Stainless Steel We've had one for... I dunno... fifteen years? More? That my wife gave me one Christmas. Still going strong. I owned a Baratza and it served as an excellent grinder for many years. I then fell deeply into the espresso rabbit hole and went on to a much more expensive grinder. Truthfully there was some improvement but it did show me that the Baratza punched well above its weight class. When my new grinder arrived I gave the Baratza to a friend who has been using it ever since. Last month she told me she had an issue with it and sent it in for repair. It came back to her looking new and at a very reasonable price for the overhaul. I highly recommend Baratza and I'm sure you will find a big improvement in your coffee taste. You might look on Seattle Coffee Gear dot com Iv’ve purchased several things from them, satisfied customer, no other relation. They show several grinders as being made in Italy. I’d call them and inquire further On their website is a link to their repair and service department. I’d call that, ask for their lead each or service manager and ask for their recommendations for a good grinder, reliable and not chinese made best bang for the buck and budget. If I were to buy another Baratza, and I will later, I’d buy the Virtuoso. I have the Encore, their basic model, and am not really pleased with it. Good luck to you, please post back what you ended up doing.

Capresso here too for several years. The knob had broken a couple times but the company is easy to get a part for cheap. The mechanics of the unit is great.
