Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
His handling of the Shah of Iran being outed and supporting the crazies in Afghanistan vs the Soviets sounded like a good idea to an idealistic President. Those crazies were the beginning of Osama Bin Laden and a laundry list of groups that have been thorns in our side ever since. Then there was the Iranian hostages and the rescue debacle that showed his weakness. They were released as Reagan was being sworn into office. He handled one of the oil crisis situations badly and presided over the worst inflation that I can remember with massive interest rates that make our present situation laughable (20% home loans-if you had good credit). Those are just some of the highlights in one term. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Lots of American Presidents have made lots of mistakes, but Carter made most of them, without a doubt. He is the one who confirmed me as a Republican. Prior to him, I was willing to listen to "the other side" though I never voted for them, but he convinced me that was a waste of time. He won't be missed. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

In a time in which the world was engaged in high stakes chess he was trying to play checkers. His actions directly hurt a number of my friends. _________________________ NRA Endowment Member _________________________ "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. Well, at least he died a happy man being able to cast his all important vote for the Kackle. Btw, Satan sent a message, "You're next, Bill". Q

Carter did quite a lot for Habitat for Humanity. He actually knew how to swing a hammer and that was much appreciated. His brother provided lots of comic relief.

Very honorable, a real jackass as president until Biden came along.

JC was a good and honorable man who managed to validate the Peter Principle. His heart and faith led him to places his intellect could not rescue. Whatever harm he did to our country (and it was massive) was, at least, done with the best of intentions, and a mistaken confidence that most people in the world had the same. I didn't think he'd last long after Rosalind passed, but they, as a couple, outshone pretty much every Presidential couple since. I attended Reagan's laying in State. I would not be surprised to see something similar for Carter. I'll admit I am not quite so eager to wait in line for hours for this.

I seriously doubt it. He was President close to 50 years ago. Half the country doesn't even know who he was. He'll be planted quietly in Plains, GA, and the world will continue to spin. This was the day I was dreading, now we get to listen to everyone polish a turd until 2 days after they plant that peanut. He was a hypocrite, made alot of vile statements about Bush and Trump and then he went and built houses to put on a good image. Teaches Sunday school but supports Democratic policies. Indeed, as much as people want to bag on Carter, he just didn't do a lot and he only had a single term. Not saying he was a swell guy but, L.Johnson, Obama, Biden, Wilson, Buchanan, A.Johnson, easily are worse. The only good thing I can think of he did was he signed into law the legalization of home brewing. I heard at the time of his signature 1978, there was only 70 commercial breweries in the US. Home brewing, stimulated the creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit that can allow an industry grow & develop.

I agree Carter was a good man but a bad President. The President who said he would "fundamentally change America" is the worst. SIGnature NRA Benefactor CMP Pistol Distinguished

I'll be the outlier and say that Carter was a horrible ex-president, his smile and friendly exterior was the facade of a cold, mean person who stopped smiling after the cameras shut off, and treated people around him like shit, especially his Secret Service protection. He stuck his unwanted nose into foreign issues in the Reagan and Bush administrations, culminating in his disastrous "negotiation" with North Korea in 1994 by giving them two reactors and $5 billion in cash if they promised to stop developing nukes. And of course they violated the accord the very first day and a few years later detonated its first nuke, and have been a nuclear thorn in the side of the U.S. ever since. Good riddance. Yeah all the above especially the way he treated his USSS folks. And for being a bad president, I don’t blame him as much as I blame every brain dead asshole who voted for him.

Yeah, if he were a honorable man, he should have kept his mouth shut. Don't they have this gentlemanly unwritten rule about ex-Presidents not badmouthing current ones? But no, the TDS asshole just couldn't help himself. Q
