The Velvet Voicebox
posted
I've been asked a few times to explain the "Velvet Voicebox" tag that I have. Para himself was so gracious to bestow that to me after I posted up a little 15 second video intro to the forum.
Years ago I did voiceover work while living on the east coast. I did...Ok.Smile For awhile I had two, sometimes 3 gigs lined up every week. Had fun, made a good amount of money, met some great people, and some assholes.
Anyway, one day I had just finished a recording at my home studio, and came up with the idea to do something for the forum. I put this together in about 30 minutes just for fun. Sent it to Para. I said that this entro can never be used in public because of royalty issues with the background music. He was good with it. It was a big hit with the membership at the time. From that day on because of Para I was the Velvet Voicebox.
I stopped doing VO work because of politics. Long story short, I turned down gigs because I didn't believe in the political bent of the clients.
Hope this sounds as good now as it did years ago..

My thanks Cliff!
I recently pulled your chain about wanting to know the origin of the "velvet voicebox" in the Unchained Melody thread (Lair).

You do indeed have a velvet voice! Big Grin

That was recorded in 2012... no idea how I missed it. Roll Eyes

Whoa !
How much to record my outgoing voicemail message ?

Maybe a technophile among us with the skills can separate out the music from the spoken on that.

That's fantastic, Cliff. I appreciate the backstory. I was always curious about your voiceovers. Good stuff. You could give Mike Rowe a run for his money!
