We have the opposite problem in Texas, but when all these little eco warrior idiots are happy about energy prices going up, I ask them if they are okay with old people and babies dying when people can’t afford to air condition their house, because that is what happens.

If I lived in an oil heating area, I’d be getting me a DIY mini-split heat pump and install it yesterday.

I have been working with heating oil companies for the last 30 years. The current market is brutal for both consumers and the companies. As bad as oil prices are, dyed kerosene is even worse. It is pushing $10 per gallon.

Most companies are family businesses and when high prices force customers to take longer to pay, it puts a real strain on their credit lines. They are paying their suppliers via EFT within 7 days.

There are also supply issues and companies have been seeing allocation. I had one client in NY who was limited to a total 1800 gallons for the week. His other supplier was totally out and wouldn’t get any oil for 7-8 days. Had another client who could only get oil from one of the 7 suppliers they use.

Tough winter ahead. Will be interesting to see how all the people who paid crazy money to move from an apartment to a large house deal with the sticker shock of their heating bill.

I don’t want to see any suffering with heating bills, already hear from relatives. I think I was born with a defective gene, I actually enjoy dealing with firewood. I have enough contacts, trees to cut down or cut up haven’t been a problem.

I have a free-standing woodstove, pile goes out over 2 years. Cold & windy outside, comfortable 75 inside.

I consider wood burning the original ‘green energy’. I started as a young lad, seems very normal way to heat to me. I realize, not an easy option for many.

Why don't all you Northern Liberals just install some solar panels? That green energy will keep you nice and warm. Then you won't have to buy that dirty stinky $6 a gallon fuel oil.

My 82-year-old neighbor just installed a nat-gas supply line this summer circumventing his in the ground fuel tank for his boiler. The predicted rise in fuel cost were his rationale for the investment/work.

Equally, we upgraded our nat-gas line to 1 1/8” diameter supply for the generator. Not inexpensive. We live in earthquake regions, so if one were to occur, it’s likely the utility will shut off the natgas. Therefore, we have the option to easily swap over to local propane supply.

We also have a 10kW solar system that produces almost as much as we use over the year; however, being so far north, we don’t get much sunshine in the winter, so for all intents and purposes in the winter it’s almost nil.

Lastly, I live in the middle of a forest; we have trees to last a lifetime. They’re weeds here.

We just went through a yield curve inversion between the two year and 10 years. Watch your six brothers…

I take this as ‘figuratively speaking’, for those that complain who voted towards policies leading to high prices. I don’t take it as directed to any here, as one would expect, few lefties.
