I too have a hard time with #2. When you are right your are right. To give in and let someone else be right when they are wrong is dumb!

I think I understand quote #2. I once got into a heated argument with a close friend. I knew I was 100% right (no, really), but the discussion started getting ugly. So finally I said, you know what, you're absolutely right, thank you for setting me straight.

We're still friends to this day.

True. Very much like knowing when to walk away from either a potentially physical altercation or a simple verbal disagreement/ argument whether with an unknown or a loved one.
