24th state and counting! Effective July 1st Woohoo! ============== Today, Indiana became the 24th state to enact a policy of constitutional carry. The law changes nothing about how people acquire arms and those prohibited from owning them are still prohibited from carrying them (not that that's every stopped a determined felon). It's a good step forward for law-abiding civilians in Indiana. A lot of people fear that the sky will come crashing down, but there's no real data to support this - mostly because violent ***holes don't care about the background check system. Statement from the Governor: "The Second Amendment has been debated for years, yet time and again our U.S. Supreme Court has reaffirmed this important constitutional right that I fully support. Twenty-three other states have laws comparable to HEA 1296. Vermont has had a constitutional carry law in place since it became a state, and several other states have had a similar law for more than a decade. HEA 1296, which I've signed today, entrusts Hoosiers who can lawfully carry a handgun to responsibly do so within our State. It’s important to note that if a person is prohibited, under federal or state laws, from possessing a firearm before this law goes into effect, that person will still be prohibited. And if a prohibited person has a firearm, he or she can be prosecuted. Firearm permits will remain available, without fee, to anyone who wants or needs one, such as Hoosiers desiring to carry a firearm to, through or in another state that has reciprocity with Indiana."

Wait, what? |
Tell the morons that think the sky will fall that half the country has gone to Constitutional carry and somehow those states still exist and crimes in them have actually decreased. Watch them lose their minds. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Yes, we heard there will be "blood in the streets" when Wyoming went constitutional carry by those who opposed it (even a few Sheriffs). Didn't happen. PC

Good for Indiana. I’m really looking forward to having 26 states. Two to go. Hopefully Georgia soon. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Those sheriffs need to find alternate employment...

Gov Holcomb is still a squish politician. Good on him for signing the right to carry bill but he can go to straight hell for vetoing the bill prohibiting male transgenders from playing girls sports. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Come on DeSantis, you're behind the curve on this one. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. And several dogs, because a man with a cat is a woman. Kurt Schlichter

It is not quite as simple as you make it sound. However, the legislature has an opportunity to override the veto, which they may well do.

As stated above we need to get to 26 ASAP! We need the proof point that more than half of the states are constitutional carry states. Congratulations Indiana CC class of '22

Didn't happen in Arizona either. Then we relaxed the rules for getting a CCW permit to where it's now minimal training time and a $60.00 feet plus fingerprints. They said blood would run in the streets with this one also, and the ones claiming it the most were, oddly enough, people who taught CCW classes and were about to lose a lot of income. Surprise, surprise, no blood in the streets.

Every state that has passed this was told there would be shoot outs in the streets. Leftist BS based on no actual facts. Same thing in Texas. Only shoot outs are from gang bangers killing other gang bangers, mentally ill and normal citizens protecting themselves and family from bad guys. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
The Indiana LE groups that protested said it would be harder to hold unlicensed carriers on gun charges. Of course anyone with a felony conviction cannot own a gun much less carry it, nor anyone under 18, so any felon or juvenile caught carrying can easily be charged. People that are disallowed to own firearms due to other issues - involuntary mental confinement, dishonorable discharge, citizen status, and other things that would not show up on a criminal record might be harder to change for illegal possession. Indiana was shall issue so if you are allowed to own firearms, you will be given a license, except there is some provision for getting a not from a doctor if you are under psychiatric care - even if never involuntarily confined or adjudicated incompetent. Still need the license for reciprocity with some other states, though.
