Frangas non Flectes |
I have to drive to and from New York again some time this year, and the sooner, the better. In the process, I got to thinking of which other states I haven't been through/to yet, and figured there had to be an easy tool to track this. Sure enough, I found this site. Visitedplaces.com - US Map edition. I changed planes in Illinois once, and I'm reasonably sure we drove through it when I was a kid, but I'm not positive, so I didn't count it. Same for Missouri. Anyway, there's some large gaps I need to fill in that could be done with just a few road trips. I could probably check off Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and possibly Michigan on the way up, and the Virginias, Carolinas, Mississippi and Louisiana on the way back and be down to mopping up the rest. I'm sure some of you have done all fifty, but I was surprised to see I've done nearly half so far. Where all have you gone in these great united states? ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Mistake Not... |
For me, I've been to 44 states, missing Wisconsin, Alabama, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, at least that I know of. It's possible, even probable, I was in NH and Vermont when I was a kid, along with Wisconsin. But I won't count them since I don't remember them (even though I am counting Louisiana, which I don't remember BUT is the state I was born in). But I also have been in Puerto Rico and the US VI, but not AM Samoa or Guam. So I still have some bucket stuff to do. ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. I was stuck at 43 for about 9 years until a friend got married on the Vermont/New Hampshire border so I visited both. I've been to Florida many times via airplane so my flyover states are a little bit different. Technically, I've been in Atlanta Hartsfield Airport but I don't count that as visiting a state. (Whew...finally...) Texas, Alaska, Washington and Hawaii were airline stopovers. The rest I've visited or driven through. EDIT: Missed Alabama. Been there, done that, multiple times while stationed in Pensacola. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Only seventeen for me. I had never tabulated them before. Alabama Arizona Arkansas California Colorado Florida Georgia Illinois Indiana Kansas Louisiana Mississippi Missouri Nebraska New Mexico Oklahoma Texas I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

I spent about 12 years traveling for work. I've spent atleast 72 hours (usually a lot more) in every state except Alaska and Hawaii (I haver been to those 2 states). Also, mostly from the military, I have been to Puerto Rico and about a dozen countries. I'm done traveling for a while.
