Front tine is the devil. Not enough weight over the times and they'll jump all over the place on you.

Somebody gave me an old Montgomery Ward rear-tine about 15 years ago. I replaced the worn out tires, cleaned the carb, and put some ethanol-free gas in it. You have to monkey with the choke a bit to keep it running, but that thing starts up on the first or second pull every year and tills my garden. It's just a 5hp briggs, but it'll pull you around if you're not careful.

It's been too cold, and then too wet, to do any garden work around here yet. We usually don't plant till mother's day anyway, so I have a few more weeks to go.

Cparktd,
A neighbor has a 1025 tractor,
When 6 people asked him to till a garden for them , they agreed on
a price for the service,
He purchased a tiller and it paid for itself in two years.

Nah...you just have to know how to use them. If you're pulling and straining, you are not using it right. Think one of those big floor buffers/sanders. Tilt to steer. Rock to dig. Did my garden yesterday (20x20). I'm in my 70's. Piece of cake.
