Very sad to read this, I am going thru something very similar with my step-dad. My personal two biggest challenges:

- He does not believe he has an issues, (because why would he?) and fights us every step of the way.

- He has all but put a "price on my head" because I removed his guns from the house. He is very very angry and tells me it is none of my business. This has been a hard one for me as we used to have a very good relationship...now he will barely speak to me.

Allen ~ The list making you have described is one of the things many dementia sufferers do to try to stay "organized" and functional in their everyday life. It unfortunately becomes self defeating, as they never throw away the old, out of date notes, and hence becomes a pile of incorrect (for today's reality) useless clutter...

You mention her moving rugs around. Throw rugs are the Devil!!! A terrible tripping hazard which should be removed/minimized every chance you get to do so.

Friend found her this morning at the foot of the first set of steps (mid-entry house), barely responsive. Called 911 and then me. She's in a medically induced coma right now. Doc says we'll know more in a few days. Frown

I have heard "It wouldn't have mattered if you were there or not" a million times today. I know this, and I do greatly appreciate the sentiment...but it's not really meaning much to me right now.

Oh God, Allen... My heart goes out to you at this terrible time!

Be of stout heart, my friend.
Prayers lifted for your Mother.

Like I told my Mom all the time, I am trying to give you the best and longest ride possible. That is what you are doing for your loved one, and however that turns out it is all you can really do.

I am very sorry for both you and your mother, it is no fun for anybody.
I took care of my parents, quit my job, and came to their ranch to take care of them. I became the hated one, would not let him drive or take sides in their fights etc, etc. This destroyed my marriage, and family. I distanced my self from my kids, did not want them sacrificing their lives to take care of me. I just hope it works.
