We bought the Speed Queen pre2018 pair. It does a good job but for a few complaints. The agitator is aggressive so don't set the wash cycle for too long or you will excessively beat up the clothes. No sound when washer is done with the cycle. The spin speed is slow so blue jeans come out pretty wet and need additional drying. The dryer has no dampness sensor. You have to make the judgement on how long to set it for and if you are wrong, the cloths are either over dry or still wet. Again no sound at completion of cycle.

Seems odd that the company that made their stellar reputation over many years with one particular style of washer would discontinue it, then grudgingly bring it back while actively attempting to push customers towards an inferior product.
The TR line may have a larger profit margin, and/or they may have some new management.
Companies only offer deep discounts if something isn't selling. Also when running a manufacturing line, sometimes you need to make a certain quanitity each year to keep your production costs down. My guess is aren't selling enough units to keep the production line on that model going, or prices on vendor parts cheap enough (circuit boards etc.).

CooksterAbout six months ago we replaced a +20 year old Kenmore set with ‘basic’ GE models, and the washer does have an agitator (some basic models do not).
We are an active family of four and they do a good job of getting the clothes clean.
My appliance repair guy advised to stay away from electronics because they are nothing but trouble, and if anything lasts past five years whether electronically and/or mechanically, whether midrange or high-end $’s, with the exception of SQ, consider yourself lucky.
I took a very close look at the SQ washer model that was redesigned to bring back the traditional and more robust transmission design. At the end of last year SQ was offering an warranty upgrade to 10 years.
Price wise, the GE set (on sale) was roughly the same price as the SQ washer only.
Also, the capacity of the GE’s are 7.2 c.f. and the SQ models were 3.6 c.f. if I recall, so doing twice as many loads was not an attractive option.

RogueJSKSome, but not all, Whirlpool and Maytag appliances are still made in the US.
But Speed Queen might be the last manufacturer whose entire lineup is US-made.

What he said!!Basic low end machines as of now washer is working on 9 years and dryer is 15!!! I have never bought a complete set sense day one, kenmore 70 back in 1980
