Murfreesboro police detective shot himself in the leg while serving search warrant
A Murfreesboro police detective was injured by a gunshot while executing a warrant on Grantland Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives and officers were in the process of executing a search warrant for narcotics at a residence in the 1000 block of Grantland Avenue in Murfreesboro around 2:45 p.m. when the shooting occurred.
MPD reported the shot as a "negligent discharge" of a weapon.
The shot was fired by the detective himself, MPD spokesperson Officer Amy Norville said.
The detective was shot in the leg. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment where he was listed as being in stable condition Tuesday evening.
No other injuries were reported.
The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the department that investigates internal disciplinary issues, is conducting a full investigation of the shooting, according to an MPD release.

Very first home I bought was on that street. It's still a good neighborhood.

Wonder what type of holster and gun if it was an ND from a draw.
Glad he's okay. We recently did a warrant with our detectives and they let us uniform guys go in first to secure everyone.
Not minority enough!

We had a rookie shoot himself in the thigh “cleaning his gun” . Kid survived it and eventually left to a better department.
But some of us older FTOs would unmercifully tease his FTO and email him the block on gun safety or drop it off to him ...

I know one who shot himself in the arm after cleaning his gun.
Reassembled. Inexplicably inserted loaded magazine. Pulled trigger to check function. Got a click, as expected. Grabbed slide with off hand, with gun pointed parallel with his chest towards the left. Racked the slide to ensure reset. Immediately pulled the trigger again before removing his left arm, and launched a round into his wrist, down the length of his forearm, and out near his elbow.
He recovered and eventually returned to duty. Caught a load of crap for a while, but he's actually a decent officer.
