I had a though while skipping through mobile ads... How long before you will start seeing your own/wife's/kid's faces in ad videos? Replacing the faces of the actors in the commercials. Seems inevitable, AI driven of course. I'm sure some ad agency is already working on it.

Would it make you more or less inclined to watch the full ad, or skip it sooner? Will rights to one's appearance/image (like athletes have attained recently) be granted to ordinary individuals whose image is used this way?

What a brave new world we live in!

I read an article the other day about billboards in southern CA that will automatically link to your phone as you drive by and send their advertisements directly to you.

I predict that there will be some legal challenges to all that crap.

While they are now pushing ads on the infotainment screens in cars, there are a few of us out there still doing it old school with street side windows and outdoor arrangements.

If only finding all of the stuff needed was as simple as pixelating images.

You need a model release to legally use photographs for commercial purposes.

If someone was unwise enough to send me an ad with my image misappropriated as part of the messaging....my retirement fund would gain a couple zeros, and they'd get an expensive legal education. Smile

Is this Federal law, or State? I would expect vicinitys that have strong ties to the entertainment industry might require a model release, but I don't think it is in VA.

^^ Federal copyright law applies to the photographs themselves, and Federal law applies to privacy rights. If you took the photo, you own the copyright. If they use your photograph for commercial purposes, they need your permission.

Model release laws vary by state. Examples here. Can't speak to VA but it'd be an odd thing to permit a company taking a picture of some random person and using it in their ads without permission.
