He was the mayor of an abjectly shitty little PA town that was even shittier when he left it than when he found it. In fairness, it wasn't really "his town." He allegedly moved there with an eye towards running for local office, and his family money could buy the election there.

Then he ran for Lieutenant Governor, and because 90% of the state neither a) knew or cared what the Lieutenant Governor actually does, or b) knew who the hell this Fetterman guy was, but c) knew he had a "D" next to his name, Philadelphia and the suburbs (along with Allegheny County, Dauphin County, and Lackawanna County) carried him to the Lieutenant Governor's mansion. Once there, he managed to fuck up what is LITERALLY that office's only regular/recurring job, presiding over and voting in State Parole Board hearings. There was no such thing as a murderer he didn't vote to parole.

Then he ran for Senate, and even though he was a no-show vegetable in that campaign, the "D" after his name carried him again. Because-- yes, really-- in any PA race where two largely unqualified candidates vie for a statewide slot, the unqualified Democrat wins every time. Thank the Democrat bastions listed above for that. Pennsylvania should be solidly red in any statewisde elections, except that Republicans refuse to get out and vote if a candidate isn't a Goldilocks-style perfect "just right" guy, so the Fettermans of the world win by default.

So we in PA get to wait for Fetterman to finally expire or resign or be otherwise removed. And then, because the same election that gave us Senator Fetterman also gave us Governor Shapiro and a Democrat majority in the state House, the appointed interim replacement will be even more wildly left that Fetterman.

Shorter version? PA Republicans suck at voting, and now the nation gets to reap the whirlwind.

Thank you for a better synopsis than I could even find on Google, which is why I asked here. Thanks.

I have a tough time believing that anyone who has even the slightest amount of political consciousness doesn't know who the Senator from Pennsylvania is. And of course I'm not referring to Bob Casey.

Yup, I honestly have no clue who the guy is.

Not something I would brag about.

Listen, you're a long-time and valued member here, but you need to heed what I posted to you. Do not come in here saying you have no idea who someone is, without first doing your own research. This is not some obscure figure we're talking about; he's a US Senator and you can find all sorts of information about him very easily.

I'll say it again- with less than two minutes of research, you could have found out enough about Fetterman so that you wouldn't come in here asking questions which have answers so easily found as this.

I hold all members of this forum to the same standard.

We have Walmart level members in senate. They may as well dress like it. PJs and flip flops.

When I pick up my daughter from high school, a good number of girls are wearing pajamas and slippers. My daughter says these girls act like they don't want to be at school.
I say shame on this Senator. He and his actions are representing the citizens of his state. By looking at him, I can only assume that he doesn't care and the citizens of his state don't care either.

It's his costume.

Pretending he's a "regular guy" when he's anything but. If he's not allowed to wear his costume, the act falls apart faster.

UpChuck knows the deal and doesn't want that to happen.

When he was forced to wear a suit he looked like a guy who wandered into Men's Wearhouse with no woman to guide him through the process.

I think the Republican Senators that actually have balls should start showing up in MAGA hoodies or hats and just fucking go for it. Your rules - live by them, shitballs.

I'm amused that the effect of Schumer's action to cover for this classless asshole has been to highlight the issue and that Senator Gym Shorts is now on the defensive.

Isn't it amazing that only Republicans are "freaking out", about it, that zero D have issue with a dress code change.

It is their guy and the Democrat leader of the Senate who did this. That makes it completely not-amazing and expected. Partisan politics.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Like Sen. Lummis said, Republicans actually should do the opposite. Ramp up the formality, tuxedos and top hats. Maybe even Dumb & Dumber style with bright orange and blue with cummerbund and walking canes. Women can go full French Victorian. Just make a mockery of the whole damn thing.

The conservative adults in the room should all wear dark blue business suits, red ties, and red MAGA hats. The screeching, the hysteria would be deafening.
