Since you're in AZ, the YakTrax I got for the Mrs might not be the thing. I also got books on her hobby for her, and some baking supplies. Choosing the baking supplies was easy - I heard swearing during the creation of cookies, followed by words to the effect of, "This would be so much easier if I had a xxxx". Well, I have to admit that this year, I will make out better than her. She's getting two new rings she's been asking for, an Apple Watch with GPS and cellular and several kitchen utensils (that I normally don't buy unless she asks). On Monday, she informed me that I could order the STI DVC Carry that I've been drooling over for the last 6 months. As long as I didn't mind it being my only present. I went along with that idea. Orange Sapphire earrings. I've seen few to match the color of these, and they are F**ing big too. I gave her the choice of a 1 ct Brown diamond ring or the earrings. Put them both in her hands last week. She went Earrings all the way. 18k white gold setting - she prefers that over real gold color, don't ask me why I don't get it. They "pop" a lot more in the light.  She's gonna get the ring next year. In return, I'll get my usual 4 pack of underwear. All she wants is jewelry and I'm grateful she's easy to buy for. Early in our marriage I'd make things. Leather purses, hacky sacks, hand tooled leather belts, whirly gigs for the kids, etc. That wasn't so popular depending on what it was. She was OK with the wedding rings I made. Simple silver bands I made for us. She wore hers for years and once she got some money ahead checked that I'd be OK if she went and bought a pretty 1 kt diamond for herself. I said: "your money, do what you want". She's show it off to friends like I bought it but I didn't have any money at the time and wouldn't have wasted it on a ring if I did. Later, I'd try and fail with missed-sized or wrong color clothes and appliances that would make her work easier, etc. The current system ("buy me something sparkly") takes the pressure off and makes it easy.
