Again, dunno. Just saying that stats can be misleading unless properly normalized.

From my earlier post…

Type: Fires per 100K vehicles
Hybrid: ~3,475
Gasoline ICE: ~1,530
Battery-electric: ~25

It’s going to take some serious normalization to make the Battery-electric look bad.

Is it really fires per 100k vehicles? Or per 100k accidents involving something like front engine compartment compression. If the former, the stats are skewed.

As I stated earlier, it’s Grok that said “fires per 100k vehicles”. What is your source that says otherwise?

And why do you say, “If the former, the stats are skewed.”? Again, what is your source?

Dude, don't worry about it. If you want to trust the stats, that's fine. If I want to be skeptical of the stats, that should also be fine.

But off the cuff, some things that are perhaps not normalized that skew the stats:
1. Shit ton more gas than EV.
2. Lots of different variety of gas vehicles across a much wider range of vehicle ages (and of varying states of health and upkeep).
3. Lots of variety in make and models for gas vehicles and therefore different design and safety standards / levels.
4. different driver population demographics.

Anyway, no big deal. I'm not going to be convinced by stats here.

Curious why hybrid is so high in the stats....

I’ve noticed. You’ve never bothered to state the sources that you find more reliable.

Whether “senior parents…are a hazard on the road” due to diminished mental and/or physical capacity really doesn’t matter here, because our goal for them is the same.

I find it hard to believe that you have the nerve to invite an answer to that immediately after stating:

In my county, 34% of the population is 65 and older. At 58, I'm still one of the young guys at my church where as an Elder I visit members that are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. We have a group that drives members to church and back each week. My brother and I are nearing the point with my 87 year old father where we are going to have to ask him to quit driving completely. He already doesn't drive himself to Tampa for his cancer treatments. It seems most of those folks didn't stop driving because they couldn't turn the steering wheel or press the brake pedal.

But as Q points out, it doesn't matter if the keys need to be taken away for physical limitations, mental limitations, or a combination of the two. As I mentioned earlier, my mom couldn't pass the eye test. Popping her into a FSD Tesla would have been idiotic and so would popping my dad into one for his cancer treatments 90 miles away in Tampa. Tesla's FSD is a driver's aid not a driver replacement the same as autopilot and auto landing systems are tools for pilots not replacements for pilots.

FWIW, where in the OP did the OP ask for a Tesla discussion?

RE: what is your source....Can you provide links to _your_ actual data?

AI either gets its data from somewhere else (likely) or makes it up out of whole cloth in a hallucination (unlikely but possible) but either way what it puts out is made to look authoritative, whether it is or isn't.

Hopefully it's the former, i.e. Grok told you where the data came from, and you found those sources credible?

TL: DR - Saying "Grok says so" is not a source.
