Not disagreeing one bit. At this point I can truthfully say that I've done MORE than my due diligence and I have been 100% honest. Ball is in their court.

I had a similar experience with Dell in 2001. I ordered a relatively high-end laptop (at that time) for college. About $2,000. It was built and shipped quickly and I paid for it via “e-check”.

They never deducted the money. I tried for months to pay them. Every time I talked to them or was the same response:

“We have no record of you ordering anything”.

Eventually I gave up trying to pay them.

Less than a year later it developed a bad video cable connection and had some software issues. The tech support people had record of me and the machine. I believe XP had just been released as I recall the tech saying they didn’t even have their simulator tools yet. They were able to arrange two-way shipping and repair at no cost under the included warranty but they were unable to help me with the billing issue “sorry, not our department”.

It served me well for years until it was stole in a residential burglary.

I had an Amex gift card for $50 I used at a restaurant for about $42. I went to use it at Wal-Mart the next day for a charge of $40ish. I was expecting to have to use a real credit card for the difference, but the whole charge went through on the gift card. Problem was that I worked at Amex at the time and bosses always handed out those gift cards for minor kudos and attaboy stuff. So I figured it could be tracked back to me.

I drove back to that restaurant and the same waiter was working again that day. He assured me he ran my gift card and got his tip paid out. I figured that was all I could do and left it at that.

Oh, and we recently bought a dishwasher from Costco, which included free delivery AND installation. We had been washing dishes by hand for two weeks by the time it arrived. Delivery guys said someone else would contact us for hauling away the old one and then install. I couldn't stand to hand wash dishes anymore, so I installed it myself. The next day some folks came to haul away the old one, said someone would contact us in a week for install of the new one. We called Costco and they said someone had canceled the installation and haul away. It was the biggest clusterfook to get that all fixed. Then the same dishwasher we bought was on sale for $190 LESS. Mrs. Lee called and complained and they refunded us that much.

Ugh, what a hassle!

This seems reasonable. You have tried to fix it, and have given them the information to fix it. I wouldn't beat my head against the wall again right now. But I would try again in a week or two, if they don't realize there is a problem. I think you have been fair.

I would try a few more times, given the value of the item. Past that, you've done all you can do on your end.

I would not waste any more time on phone calls or chat sessions.

I would just send a letter -- actual old-fashioned letter in an envelope with a stamp, not email -- to customer service, and then do nothing more. Let them act on it, or not, but there's no point busting your ass to straighten out their problems.

You may eventually get billed.

Some years ago I received a check from my credit card company from an "overpayment." It was over $400 as memory serves. I called them, and advised them of their error as I made no overpayment. This went on for 2-3 years, initially I told them I'd send the check back, they said no. I told them I'd rip it up they said no. I finally deposited it after again advising them. About a year after that, I get a notice saying their had been an error, and that they had erroneously sent me a payment of X. Quite a few guys at work said to keep the money, something about the time elapsed, credit law etc and that I had well documented attempts to return the money. It wasn't mine, so I sent them a check.

Amazon recently incorrectly shipped my wife an Oculus 2 virtual reality device. She called Amazon and the CSR was adamant she was supposed to receive it, wife checked the credit card, no charges, kept checking for two weeks, no charges.

Well did it arrive? If the ordering process is that screwed up, and CSR can't fix the charge, who knows if it really was shipped.

I have very little patience with these types of things. I'd call customer service once. If that didn't work, I might try to report the issue via their chat function in the "contact us" section of their website. I don't think they have a customer service email published or I'd use that. After that, I'd be done with it. If they ever billed me, I'd pay, but otherwise, screw them for making it so difficult. If it was a small business, I'd think differently, but a conglomerate like Costco, there's no way I'd waste much time.

FedEx Ground just delivered all five boxes of equipment and accessories. No charge or authorization on my card yet. No word from Costco.

You mentioned that this was on a citi card. Assuming it is a citi Costco card, they'll probably eventually put the charge on your replacement card number. I wouldn't worry about it, you've done more than enough on your end to try to make it right. Ball is in their court now.

I've gotten free stuff from Amazon a few times. Most recently I ordered one (1) MTM plastic ammo can. Amazon shipped me a case of six (6). I did the online chat and asked for a return label. The CSR thanked me for my honesty and told me to just keep the extras or donate them.

Another time they lost a package of about $100 worth of tools. They automatically refunded the purchase without me ever contacting them. So I went ahead and placed a new order which showed up two days later. A few weeks later, the original "lost" package showed up. I contacted them and was told to keep it.

Yes, it's the Costco Citi Visa and I'm an Executive member. I already entered the new card number into my profile on their website for future purchases. They can in no imaginable way accuse me of trying to pull a fast one.

They won't, enjoy your new quick jack. The charge will catch up to the new card on the next cycle.

You've done more than enough already. Set aside the money and when/if they come looking for it, pay them. End of story.

Wish I could have a Quickjack drop on my porch for no charge.
Been contemplating one for a while, just haven't been able to justify the cost.

If I manage to pick up a new 'toy' I've been eyeing, I may give it another look.

Just wait until you get the local guy to finally take payment and then watch them fix the original issue and you pay twice. Big Grin

The wife and I had a similar issue but it was only for a $2.68 box of tea. We ordered it, they emailed her saying that it was ready for pickup. She went to Walmart to get it and they said it was already picked up. She said she hadn't picked it up and would like them to get her one. They did. We went home and there was a bag on our from porch. Walmart had delivered it to our door with another grocery item that was actually supposed to be delivered.

We tried to get them to charge us but no one understood what we were saying and said "you have the item, right? Well, ok, have a good day." We ended up reverse shoplifting one of the boxes of tea back into the store and scanning and paying for it at self-checkout. Big Grin
