Just wow. Not much else to say. Upward of 40k RPM. I can’t seem to embed the video. Not going to waste more time trying to continue to fail. Here is a link. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wrang...dium=web2x&context=3 The “lol” thread

Wow. Differential gears are probably hashed as well. Looks like new engine, new trans, new driveline, new differential gears, pull and inspect half shafts to make sure splines are fine and no cracks in shafts, could be some brake line or cooling system damage from when all those parts grenaded and went flying about. Basically, someone is going to get a Rubi chassis, suspension and interior for a custom build for a really good price. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Wow! I'd expect to hear a high pitched whine before anything exploded.

I'm pretty sure there is still a high pitched whine coming from the direction of the owner.

Same thing happened to a fellow I knew several years ag0. He was pulling his Wrangler behind an RV when it somehow slipped into gear at speed. The oil pan from the Jeep had lots of lumps and bumps in it. He did not realize it, but a passing car told him of the smoke.

I'm having a hard time believing the engine reached over 40,000rpm. Wouldn't the tires start slipping at some point? My uneducated guess is that it fragmented much sooner. The differential gears, axles, and drive shafts would have been turning at normal rpm, but under increased load.

If the RV had sufficient power & accelerated slowly with good traction, I could see the wheels turning & not locking up. Googled a quick calculator for tire RPM - 31" tire = 650 RPM @ 60MPH with 4.10:1 reduction in 2 places, you're looking at just under 11,000 RPM at the output of the transmission. I didn't look up what 1st gear in a newer jeeps is, but another 4:1 isn't hard to fathom. On my truck, 1st gear / 4lo goes less than 10MPH at 3000RPM, if you drug the truck at 60MPH, that'd be >30 THOUSAND RPM.

Beancooker, How do you like your new toy so far? I've always wanted one but never took the plunge. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

I have towed behind a 40" class A diesel pusher. My RV had a Cummins ISX diesel engine and it only made 350 hp and 350ish ft/lbs of torque. It took time to get her up to speed, but very little would stop her from getting there. Poor Jeep never stood a chance. ____________________________ Yes, Para does appreciate humor.

some people tried the math in the comments at the link. anywhere from just under 40k RPM to roughly 48k RPM. But either way, I agree that it probably didn't make it to 55mph before it blew. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Pick up the totaled Wrangler for 10K . Drop 35K for a hemi conversion and have a great vehicle for 50K. Way cheaper than doing the conversion on an operable one. ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

The transmission must have fused together internally first to get the torque converter spinning. I'm surprised the input shaft just didn't shear off first. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Here, poke at it with this stick.

I sheared the rear driveshaft on my 304 V8 CJ7. With the Doug Nash conversion, low range in 2wd was an option. It had 33x12.5 BFGoodrich ATs, I stomped on the accelerator, and instead of spinning tires, I got a loud thunk followed by somewhat quieter thumpity, thumpity... When I looked underneath, I found a piece hanging from the rear differential, a piece hanging off the transfer case, and when I tried to match them up, there was clearly a piece missing. Found that 15 feet away, hence, the initial loud thunk. The tubular part of the shaft had twisted and sheared like a pop can. I took the piece off the transfer case, put it in 4wd and drove my now front wheel drive Jeep home.

If someone wants to plug in the numbers here's a ratio calculator that will have all that data for RPM's and such. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Friend of the family had a Prevost that he and his wife toured the USA, drug a Chevy Astro Van behind it. Said he was going across the bridge from Louisville into Indiana on 65 when folks started flagging him down. Seems the van blew two tires, they never knew it, that Prevost just pulled it along like it was nothing.

Reminds me of the time a guy in a nice motor home was in the RV Resort office checking in when he looked out the office window...."Where's my fu$&in truck?". Dropped the pen, out the door, got in the motor home and we never saw him again. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
