Back in the day (maybe 10-11 years?) looking at a 'leftover' 16600 40mm Sea Dweller for $6,000, I had a feeling it would be a collector's item. Not much more than a Date Sub but more massive and without the cyclops. LNIB with papers and stickers it would be worth $14k or maybe more.

I personally like the Original 116610

Mine has been running at - .5 seconds accuracy per day and is great. Perfect size.

I feel the DSSD is way too big. SD 43 is okay but still too big IMO and I am 6'1 300 lbs so not small.

Dont by from a site like DAVID SW you will pay a crazy high premium. As a matter of fact all Rolex prices are nuts right now but for a better deal check out www.rolexforums.com and the for sale section. Guys list watches for sale there and you can hunt for a better deal on a like new used one.

I bought this watch in 2016 and it was preowned for about 30 days, so pretty much new. I've worn it just about non stop since. I have a physical job, sometimes I'm running a hammer drill, sometimes I'm running heavy equipment. I wear it EVERY DAY. As such, she shows some beauty marks. Most of the action on the escape valve side is from a bracelet I also wore with watch for a few years.

The bezel and sapphire are flawless.

I had a D serial 16610 serviced at my authorized dealer which as a in-house watchmaker that is also a authorized Rolex service center. My total cost was 1050 dollars and watch was like new nd good for another 10 years.

You can also send it to the main RoleX service center. I bet cost will be right around a grand

What was the turn around time? My Sea Dweller needs it bit I’d rather not wait months to get it back.

Congrats on the purchase!

My daily wearer for the last ~22 years has been the 16600 SD.

I've sent mine in to Rolex (Dallas) twice at 10-year intervals. As someone else posted, a typical service is around $800-$1000. Each time I was provided an estimate and permitted to accept/decline the recommended services. The last time, I declined the bracelet replacement for stretched links as a new bracelet now costs almost what I paid for the whole watch in 1999. I did find Classic Watch Repair in Hong Kong and had them rework the bracelet for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Yes, my DSSD is just over ten years old now, and was serviced four years ago, but as that came out of UK my costs would be meaningless to you. Figure on around >$1000 or so, if, like me, you elect to have the case re-polished the high sides DO tend to attract scratches, as show above. Timekeeping is VERY good, right up there with a couple of other high-grade mechanical watches with similar COS certification.

Jamie Dolinar is in Ohio. You have to find him on FB. He is the one with all of the watches.

I had my Sub serviced at Rolex. It was around 1k. When I received my watch back, My watch was completely overhauled and looked like the day I purchased it.

Within a few seconds a day is spec. I'd rather my watch be a little fast than slow, as it is easier to correct the time. A good watchmaker [guy in a jewelry shop who services watches] can replace the gaskets on the crown and back, then do a pressure test for far less than a 'full service'. Or yes, you can mail it to Rolex. In a box wrapped with brown paper, sealed with nylon-embedded paper glue tape, address written directly on the wrapping, Registered Mail.

If you want to test and maximize accuracy, track the time by the atomic clock daily. Change the position you leave it overnight. You may well find one position to be practically perfect.
